In the manga of One Piece, there are currently quite heated events. The great villain behind the World Government has already shown himself and is fighting the Straw Hat allies. Luffy is also supposed to confront him soon, but he is actually not ready for it.

The Straw Hats are currently on Elbaf, the island of giants. To the surprise of many readers, they are currently threatened by Imu, who has finally revealed himself. After instructing his knights, Imu also quickly showed what he is capable of. He effortlessly defeated the giants Dorry and Brogy and demonstrated a powerful technique that can turn people into mindless demons.
His attack is still ongoing in the manga, and it seems that Luffy will also have to face him soon. But he actually stands no chance, as he urgently needs an upgrade.

Why does Luffy need an upgrade? The Straw Hats have already faced off against Imu in the manga after he freed some of his knights, worsening the situation on Elbaf again. Zoro and Sanji, the two strongest fighters after Luffy, have also attempted to fight Imu (in chapter 1180).
Both failed miserably, as Imu was able to easily stop and counter their attacks. Without much effort, he knocked both out. Even the mighty giant Loki stood no chance.
Luffy is currently also preparing for the fight with Imu and is stuffing himself. Yet, even the captain of the Straw Hats seems to take Imu’s power seriously. The last time he was seen in the manga, Luffy began to eat more after Imu Joy Boy
shouted and he felt his impressive Haki.
Considering how quickly Imu defeated Zoro and Sanji, Luffy’s Gear 5 probably isn’t enough. After all, he only barely managed to defeat Kaido with it. Thus, he needs a new upgrade or power-up to have any chance against Imu.
As GamesRant suspects, Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki could be the key. In chapter 1152, Scopper Gaban told Luffy to use his Conqueror’s Haki wisely, as it was too weak. After all, Haki has been an important element in the past to break through limits.
Another possibility lies in Luffy’s fruit. Since it is the fruit of the sun god, there is surely still a lot of power hidden behind it.
How likely is it that Luffy can defeat Imu? Considering Imu’s abilities, one can assume that there won’t be a final battle with a clear winner. Unless Luffy suddenly acquires a completely exaggerated ability, the Straw Hats will probably have to find another way (or ally) to survive on Elbaf.
