MeinMMO author Johanna has long missed a feature in Pokémon GO. Now she has re-downloaded the mobile game and finds: She can finally ride a bike.
If I had one complaint about Pokémon GO back then, it was the fact that there was no bike mode. As soon as I hopped on my bike in 2016, the app yelled at me that I was going too fast. Rightfully so, after all, you shouldn’t play Pokémon GO while driving a car!
Still, I was disappointed because how was I supposed to hatch my eggs so quickly? In the Pokémon games, I cycle around until the famous How?
or Oh?
appears on the screen. The fact that Pokémon GO stood between me and my bike was so annoying that I didn’t really want to play the mobile game for a long time.
Now I’ve downloaded it again because I’ve learned that there is a way to combine cycling and hatching.
Finally on the bike!
When I opened the Pokémon GO app a few days ago, I turned on the Adventure Sync feature and created a profile with Google Fit. My bike activities are tracked through Google Fit, and the number of kilometers is then transferred to Pokémon GO.
The game counts the kilometers for the eggs, so I can hatch my eggs with the bike just like in the game. PokéStops and gyms can also be reached much faster by bike.
In addition, I got a holder for my smartphone so that I don’t have to shove it in my pocket. This way, I have my hands free for the handlebars and can still see with a quick glance when I need to stop for a Pokémon.
With an additional widget on my home screen, I can see the progress I’m making in hatching the eggs.
In recent days, I’ve had much more fun with Pokémon GO by incorporating my bike. A fun that I last had 10 years ago at the game’s release. Additionally, I’ve already covered some kilometers: After work, I’ve always managed at least 3 kilometers in the early evening.
How do I activate Adventure Sync? You can activate Adventure Sync yourself like this:
- Go to the main menu
- Then access settings
- Click on
General
- Then turn on Adventure Sync
Then you need to link your health app, either Apple Health or Google Fit. That way, you are ready to go!
How do you prefer to play Pokémon GO? On foot, for example while jogging, or also on the bike? Let us know in the comments!
I play on my account that I created back in the early days of Pokémon GO. Among the caught Pokémon, I was able to discover a real treasure: I thought my Pokémon GO account from 10 years ago was trash – until I saw this one monster
