The Cow Level is one of the biggest secrets in Diablo 4. With Lord of Hatred, the puzzle has now been solved, but player reactions are rather disappointing.

User illforSithis writes, for example, on Reddit that the Cow Level takes far too much time. While it is cool that there are so many secrets surrounding the level and they had to be solved together, the grind is too high for “a bit of nostalgia”.

The fact that the only reward at the end is a crown without a cool effect leads to frustration. However, one has to invest many hours, find items, and take down numerous cows. Thus, Tamazin_ writes on Reddit that just killing the cows takes 5-15 hours.
Many also criticize that the level simply seems too empty. In comparison to the levels in earlier installments, the cow hordes are missing here, which makes it rather boring according to community feedback.
What is being praised? Despite the criticism, the unique helm “The Cow King’s Crown” is well-received, primarily due to its quirky stats. The crown drops from the Cow King at the end of the level and has questionable effects that change depending on the day of the week. The Cow Level also seems to only be accessible on Tuesdays. Both are nods from Blizzard to their own design decisions in the past: You can really open the Cow Level in Diablo 4, but if you miss it, you’ll have to wait.
