That Diablo 4 is a game that revolves around grinding is no news. However, one player has significantly underestimated the grind for his coveted bag of garbage, a pain that MeinMMO editor Alex can also relate to.
Why was the player searching for a bag of garbage? In Diablo 4, there are several pets that can accompany you as little loot helpers on your journeys. Among them is the small Murloc Trawghll, which hides in a gurgling bag of garbage.
Theoretically, you just need to “fish” him out. For many, this “just” usually extends to attempts of an average of 5-10 hours of fishing with an absurdly high number of tries. However, a player on Reddit now shares his success, which required significantly more grinding.
“The drop rate is agonizingly low”
User 1Sin0Stanz reports in his thread that he spent around 2 months searching for the notorious Murloc. During this time, he appropriately watched “The Pitt” but then switched to “Rick & Morty” as the grind took longer than expected.
Finally, after the suffering player stated that he gathered 203,000 fish, the long-awaited gurgling bag of garbage saw the light of day. Trawghll had a new companion to carry the loot, and 1Sin0Stanz could finally end his grind.
Many players in the comments can relate to the painful grind and some are still in the middle of it. For all of them, the poster gives the following tip:
“To avoid going crazy, I switched through the different map areas and caught 1000 specimens of a fish species before moving to the next one – just to not have to see the same thing day after day. Trawghll can drop anywhere, but the drop rate is agonizingly low…”
Why is the grind so hard? The Murloc can, as the poster mentioned in his tip, theoretically drop anywhere as long as you own the “Lord of Hatred” expansion and can fish. The drop depends on chance, and according to players’ experiences, the companion shows up only extremely rarely, as the example of the Reddit user impressively demonstrates. Therefore, you have no choice but to fish over and over again and hope for your luck.
MeinMMO editor Alex has also had no luck with the rascal so far: I honestly stopped counting how many fish and items I have fished up. Since his release, I have been trying to catch the little guy and have had no luck so far.
Unfortunately, the grind is not that exciting, and eventually, one just goes insane. I’ve definitely put in a good 12 hours as well. It’s a love-hate relationship because somehow, you always start over again, and the Murloc is pretty cool; it’s just not right that I don’t have him… I certainly won’t give up.
Is it the same for you, or have you already caught the Murloc? Do you have any further tips on how to cope better with the agonizing grind? Feel free to write us in the comments!
