If you have been playing Pokémon GO for a while, you have surely cursed that you cannot message other players. But to this day, direct communication with other trainers in the game is not possible, although it could bring some advantages.
A user on Reddit has now found a simple yet brilliant way to connect with other trainers. However, trainers must meet a requirement for this to work.

What kind of trick is this? Most trainers should be familiar with the Campfire app. This is an app also offered by Niantic. It is free and provides a way to connect to various Niantic games like Pokémon GO or Monster Hunter Now.
With this, you get a tool that allows you to keep track of and plan various activities in the game better, as well as organize raids with foreign players. Among other things, it is also possible to chat with other players – even with trainers you have added as friends in Pokémon GO.
While this should be quite obvious, many trainers may have never thought about it before. Trainer LaughingOutLoudAgain pointed out this exact method in a post on Reddit.
Moreover, the user also explains how you can directly see which of your friends have installed Campfire and how to find them there. To do this, you must proceed as follows:
- open your friends list
- select a friend
- if they have an icon with a red balloon in the top right, then they have installed Campfire
- click the balloon to see your friend’s ID in Campfire
- note the ID
- open Campfire, click on your profile at the bottom right and on the friends button
- search for the corresponding ID, open your friend’s profile and click on message
- now you can message the trainer
What are the advantages of this? Through this method, it is possible to message trainers and coordinate a remote trade. You can directly communicate with each other and clarify what both of you want to trade.
Furthermore, it also allows for coordination for remote raids and to discuss opening gifts so that both trainers can effectively utilize the friendship leveling bonus.
What should be noted here? Keep in mind that you can only message friends via Campfire who have also set up Campfire themselves.
Additionally, the post on Reddit points out that you are not always notified by the app when you receive a message. If you are waiting for a friend’s reply, actively open the app at certain intervals to avoid missing new messages.
