The battle-hardened Rey Dau presents particularly tough challenges for hunters in Monster Hunter Wilds. One player managed to take him down with his build in under 4 minutes. We will show you how.
What battle is it about? The battle-hardened Rey Dau was introduced on April 30, 2025, as a limited-time event quest in Monster Hunter Wilds, making him the first battle-hardened beast you can fight. Since May 7, you can also complete him as a Free Challenge Quest and earn a rank on the world leaderboard depending on the time taken.
To face him, you must be at least Hunter Rank 50. The battle-hardened Rey Dau is considered the toughest monster to date and poses many hunters challenging obstacles.
Speedrunners have since been trying out various combinations to defeat him as quickly as possible in the Free Challenge Quest. One player managed to do this with his dual blades and special build in 3:42:58 minutes, earning him an A-rank rating.
Quick victory with dual blades and Rey Dau γ armor – but not without risk
What build does the player use? YouTuber and speedrunner Vitrast shares a video on his channel on YouTube, where he showcases his speedrun. He uses the following build, based on the new Rey Dau armor and focusing on dual blades, but also turns into a glass cannon:
- Weapon: The Artian weapon Tilt circles with ice element (3 x attack infusion +5 / 1 x element infusion +20)
- Weapon decorations: 1 x Crit-Jwl 3 / 1 x Sharpness-Jwl 3 / 1x Spiritual-Eye-Jwl 3
- Secondary weapon: Hunting horn Resonating Galahad
- Weapon decorations: No decorations
- Headgear: Rey Headgear Gamma
- Chest armor: Holy Armor Beta
- Arm armor: Rey Arm Guard Gamma
- Waist armor: Rey Waist Ring Gamma
- Leg armor: Rey Leg Guard Beta
- Talismans: Challenger Talisman II
- Cloak: Corrupted Cloak

How does the hunter play? At the beginning, the player buffs himself with berries and a meal before drawing his hunting horn and buffing his attack power with the right melody. Then he blasts himself into the air with a barrel bomb to trigger the appropriate buffs.
Then he switches to his dual blades and gets started. For his tactic, it’s necessary to perfect evading beforehand, as he conducts the entire fight with barely any health points and without healing. Additionally, by perfectly evading, you enter a short mode where you deal damage with further evading.
You should also know exactly where you can, for example, trigger Blade Dance or Demon Mode without taking damage.
A similar tactic was also used by user HALMAN in his speedrun against the hardened Mizutsune, which is also considered one of the hardest monsters to defeat in the game. For his run, he similarly became a glass cannon like Vitrast and struck it down with good timing and his dual blades: Player takes down one of the strongest creatures in Monster Hunter Wilds in under 3 minutes, turns into a glass cannon for it
