After the announced final update for Destiny 2, players do not want to accept a final death. Now they want to take action themselves to convince Sony and developer Bungie of a continuation.
How do players want to conjure up a Destiny 3? Since the end of Destiny 2 was announced, the community of the franchise has been in a mixed mood of mourning, but also fighting spirit: players want Destiny 3.
A petition was launched on change.org, in which fans want to urge Sony to develop Destiny 3 with their signatures. At the time of the article’s release (May 24, 2026, 09:10 UTC), the petition is supported by 114,838 people. After checking initially at 08:33 UTC, the number has increased by 2,048 signatures in about 45 minutes.
The petition is only part of the community’s joint plan
How do the organizers of the petition express themselves? The fans who started the petition say the following:
The “Destiny” series has captivated millions of players worldwide with its engaging universe, exciting gameplay, and strong sense of community. However, with the end of updates for “Destiny 2”, it is time to take the next step and keep this beloved series alive. This step is the development of “Destiny 3”.

How does the community plan to pursue this goal further? In addition to the petition, the Destiny franchise community has decided to make a joint statement. On June 9, 2026, on the launch day of the final update, they want to dive into the game in masses to show their support and love for Destiny 2.
Fans hope for as many players as possible, and the community is already showing its readiness and motivation in advance to do their part, as seen in this Reddit post:
- “It’s strange, but unusually, I hope I’ll have to wait in a long line” (cayde123)
- “I haven’t played or followed up in years, but the recent news is sad. I will log in for a good cause” (Gymdoctor)
- “I took the day off. I want to see the servers collapse under the overwhelming number of players” (Pman1324)
The conclusion for Destiny 2 did not surprise the community of players. According to a well-known journalist, the developers also had no idea what news they were going to face: Almost all developers of Destiny 2 supposedly learned of the end suddenly; they were apparently still working on new content
