Destiny 2 will not be supported further by Bungie after the last announced patch. The news shocks the community, which remembers the beautiful moments of the action MMO together.
How is the Destiny 2 community doing right now? To keep it short – bad. The Reddit subreddit for Destiny 2 contains a mix of different stages of grief.
The news that Destiny 2 will not be supported further after 9 years and the last update seems to leave no one cold, judging by the many reactions. Players are currently coming together to say: “Don’t be sad that it’s over. Be happy that it happened” (AlzdeenDren on Reddit).
Between grief, memories bring bittersweet melancholy
How varied are the reactions? While one group clings to the last threads of hope for a possible Destiny 3, Jason Schreier has deemed this highly unlikely. In a post on Bluesky, the industry insider emphasizes that Destiny 3 is not in active production.
Other players, who are accepting the end of Destiny 2 with more acceptance, are celebrating the moments of the last years by commemorating it in-game with ceremonies, thanks to the game, and videos.
Here you see one of those videos in a post with the words: “Today I am quite emotional… Thank you for this incredible journey, Bungie.”
What words does the community dedicate to Destiny 2? On Reddit, many players express their gratitude to Bungie for the last years, but also to the community itself, which is the most important thing for many about the action MMO:
“I think what people miss most about Destiny is the community,” writes ThunderBay-616 on Reddit. IIApoll also writes under the video post: “I really feel like someone has ripped a piece out of my chest.”
The MeinMMO community also shares words of farewell:
- “That the end is coming was to be expected, but it still shocks you so suddenly. […] I wish all Guardians I have ever played with all the best and thank you, thank you for the great time. Best regards, Vryday” (Vryday)
- “I haven’t played Destiny 2 for over a year now, but somehow the news makes me a bit sad. […] Goodbye, Destiny 2, I will miss you.” (Walez)
- “At the moment I am lacking the right words a bit. It has been our home for many of us over the years.” (Mike)
- “The franchise has a very special place in my heart. I hope we will see a Destiny game that does justice to the franchise and especially to the fans.” (Chris)
