There are ten vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2 in total, but you first have to earn six of the classes. The Warlord (in English: Warfarer) plays a special role, challenging even players with 100 hours of experience.
What is special about the Warlord / Warfarer of Dragon’s Dogma 2? This vocation is only available to your awakened character. With it, you can equip all weapons and armor of the role-playing game and even switch between peacekeepers fluidly in battle.
Additionally, you can combine all weapon skills as well as the core skills of all classes. Casting the whip spell with a staff to gain height, only to switch to a two-handed sword and launch a powerful blow on the targeted victim – this is just one of the countless possibilities of the Warlord.

Does the Warlord / Warfarer also have weaknesses? Oh yes, some:
- To unlock the vocation, you must go to the camp on the volcanic island (high-level area) and bring Lamond three bottles of newt liquor, which is quite a hassle – more details on that below.
- The Warlord has lower base stats than the other classes, making them better in their specialist roles.
- In order to access all important skills, you must level up the other nine vocations. This also takes time.
- For the skill that allows you to switch weapons in battle, one of the four skill slots is used up. So, you only have room for three additional skills.
- The active weapon skills are still tied to their weapons and can only be used when you hold the corresponding weapon type.
How to unlock the Warlord
For this vocation, you must go to the volcanic island camp (on the volcanic island of Agamen) and accept the quest The Intoxicated Sage from Lamond. For the quest, you need newt liquor, which you can find in Bakbattahl – Earland sells the liquor near the road to the Flame Palace for 2,000 gold.
A second bottle of newt liquor is hidden in the research laboratory for forbidden magic, specifically in the chemical lab. Lastly, you can also combine fruit wine and lizard tail to obtain the liquor. If you supply Lamond with the three bottles, he will teach you the Warlord vocation.
The Warlord rocks
The effort behind the vocation and the seemingly annoying restrictions fade when one becomes aware of the potential of the gameplay style. Fraser Brown from PC Gamer, who had already invested 100 hours in Dragon’s Dogma 2 during his Warlord debut, describes his experience with the vocation as follows:
The potential [of the Warlord] is simply ridiculous. Each of these ten vocations offers so many creative gameplay options on its own, and when you combine them all, it is… well, it’s almost too much to process.

According to Brown, for example, you need to pay attention to the order in which you switch the weapons. If you want to float in the air and then poke a cyclops in the eye with a one-handed sword (the thief’s specialty), you need to have your one-handed sword ready right after the staff to get the timing right.
However, it is no longer possible to execute the initially mentioned floating/two-handed attack combination. Figuring out and experimenting with all these combinations is a significant part of the fascination but also the challenge of the Warlord for Fraser Brown.
