In Hearthstone, a plague is causing a stir that raged 14 years ago in the MMORPG World of Warcraft . An eSports match at Grandmaster level ultimately came down to a game of “Russian Roulette.”
What kind of plague is this? In 2005, “Hakkar” wreaked havoc in WoW. He was the final boss of the Zul’Gurub raid. The fiend was capable of afflicting players with a blood plague that spread to other players. This was originally intended only for the raid.
However, in WoW, players were able to smuggle this plague out of the raid with hunter pets for a while and spread it to cities like Stormwind and Orgrimmar, where countless innocent players died, as there was no cure for the virus.
This is how the plague works in Hearthstone: The card “Hakkar the Soulbinder” costs 10 mana and has 9/6 stats. It shuffles the card “Corrupted Blood” into both players’ decks as a Deathrattle. This causes 3 damage when drawn and shuffles two more cards into the deck.

For a long time, Destiny was alone in its market segment “Online Loot Shooter” or “MMO Shooter.” In 2019, Destiny 2 had Anthem and The Division 2 as two competitors that approached the genre differently. But somehow, something is off, says our author Schuhmann in his conclusion in May 2019 about the genre of loot shooters.
Was Destiny the only option for 5 years? For years, players felt that there were hardly any alternatives to Destiny and played Bungie’s shooter even when there were actually no more contents for thousands of hours. They often complained that there was nothing left to do and that Bungie was just recycling.
To be fair, Destiny wasn’t truly alone from 2014 to 2019. In 2016, there was a period when many Guardians ran around as agents in New York, and in between, some Guardians wandered on other paths, becoming a Tenno in Warframe or a monster hunter in Monster Hunter World. There, they satisfied their hunger for more loot and bigger enemies that Destiny had awakened in them.
But The Division was just an interlude for many – other games differed too much in gameplay from Destiny to permanently satisfy the hunger.
Was supposed to be the major competitor to Destiny in 2019: Anthem.
This is what the players wanted: Solid games, a strong flow of content, more and more loot, and things to explore in the games, tear apart with space magic or pierce with bullets.
Fans accepted that one game would hardly be enough to satisfy the eternal loot hunger of the masses.
But three games together should be able to manage that, right?

Due to the limit of 5 attack attributes, you are somewhat restricted when building a DPS build.

The World Health Organization, WHO, has officially classified “Gaming Disorder” as a mental health disorder. What consequences will it have for us in Germany that the addiction to video games is now a disease?
What has been decided? The World Health Organization will add “Gaming Disorder” to the list of officially recognized mental illnesses. According to the definition, it is a particular form of addiction triggered by video games.
This decision was made despite some criticism from psychologists and representatives of the gaming industry.
What does this decision mean for us? The World Health Organization is an agency of the United Nations, so its decisions generally apply to all UN member states.
Gaming Disorder will, according to the decision, be included in the list of diseases from January 1, 2022.
All member states must strive to find effective treatment options for the disease or take measures to prevent its occurrence.
Since Germany is also one of the UN member countries, our country will also have to face this task. It is difficult to predict what consequences it will have for German gamers. Generally, each government decides whether and what measures will be taken.
Germany is known in Europe for strict regulations regarding video games. The PEGI rating, which applies to European countries, is merely a recommendation. The German USK rating, on the other hand, punishes the sale of, for example, USK18 games to minors.

What do representatives from the gaming industry say? There is a statement from the ESA, which is the organization behind E3.

MMORPGs like World of Warcraft statistically show one of the highest addiction risks among various gaming genres. We wondered why this is the case and sought answers from psychologist Karl Brühwiler. He specializes in gaming addiction as a psychotherapist and provided us with deeper insights.
This is the background: Here at MeinMMO, we deal with video games daily and are passionate gamers ourselves. The same probably goes for you, dear readers, as otherwise, you would likely not be visiting us right now. It is a hobby that we share and brings us joy.
We were interested in what lies behind this strong attraction of MMORPGs and why they can make us addicted. We asked psychologist Karl Brühwiler, who was able to name four reasons that stand out in this genre.

Who is speaking? Psychologist Karl Brühwiler is the chief psychotherapist at the foundation Albisbrunn, which supports adolescents in developmental crises. Mr. Brühwiler is a child of the 80s and grew up with video games. In his work, he often encounters gaming addiction and has specialized in it. Mr. Brühwiler manages the blog gamesucht.com, where he publishes informative articles on the topic.
Mr. Brühwiler explained to us in writing why MMORPGs are particularly addictive. He wrote the following lines for this article and made them available to us:
How do you know that MMORPGs are more addictive than other genres? Players of MMORPGs show, on average, many symptoms of addiction compared to players of other genres. This is evidenced by a study by A. Eichenbaum and colleagues from 2015, which investigated an American sample of 4744 students.
An earlier study by Smyth and colleagues (2007) also showed that MMORPGs, compared to other genres, had a greater impact on the number of hours played, the mental and physical health of players, and on their social life.
World of Warcraft was among the first MMORPGs in which players invested enormous amounts of time.

The social appeal of MMORPGs
Already 15-20 years ago, it became apparent that many young gamers were literally “sunk” into the then emerging first generation of MMORPGs like Ultima Online, Everquest, World of Warcraft, or Asheron’s Call. Offline role-playing games like Baldur’s Gate, Fallout 1, or Planescape Torment suddenly became much less appealing. Gaming was done to the fullest of what the 48.8k modem could provide.

Even today, MMORPGs still have a strong appeal. Players join guilds and gain social status online. They embark on shared adventures and feel a sense of brotherhood. Unlike MOBAs like League of Legends or real-time strategy (RTS) online role-playing games are less micro-based and less competitive. Primarily, it is about immersing oneself in fantastically designed worlds and developing one’s own character. Often it is also about the social union with others.
Gaming is simply a great hobby for these MMORPG fans because it offers many players a sense of what they miss in real life. They can take on responsibility in the group, feel like a hero, engage with exciting stories, and escape the gray, demanding everyday life.
In MMORPGs, group play and shared adventures are an important core element.
MMORPGs and Human Primary Needs
MMORPGs correspond to the primal human need to play a vital role in the social structure, to develop, and to experience adventures. During puberty, young men release more testosterone, which is responsible for the development of goal-directed, positive aggression. 10,000 years ago, this was the time when young men were given a spear and tasked with helping in the hunt and contributing to protecting the tribe from enemies.
Today, these testosterone-laden youths sit in classrooms and have a lot of personal responsibility but very little external responsibility. These primal needs, which are not always easy to satisfy in a performance-oriented society (and by the way, also during the gameplay of offline games), are met in MMORPGs.
Players collect items for the clan. They help each other with challenges. They learn from one another and experience the same adventures. This is one of the main reasons why MMORPGs continue to be so popular and why they often have a long-standing, loyal player base.
The human being is a hunter and gatherer. This primal need finds its satisfaction in MMORPGs.
Neurophysiological Mechanisms in Video Games
MMORPGs generate – like other genres – neurophysiological incentives through loot drops, gaining XP, and defeating opponents. Every time the player collects loot, defeats an opponent, or earns XP, a small amount of happiness is created in the brain, which corresponds with the release of reward hormones like serotonin and dopamine, also released when consuming drugs.
In extreme cases, and with corresponding predispositions and excessive consumption, a habituation of the brain to this release of happiness hormones can develop over time, leading to the formation of an addiction.
The neurophysiological incentives and the satisfaction of these human primary needs are the reasons why MMORPGs are both a lot of fun and have a high potential for addiction. However, this does not mean that someone who plays a lot is automatically addicted.
As with any medication, what matters is whether the user can manage it responsibly. MMORPGs can be a great, fascinating hobby that gives the player the strength to bridge what can sometimes be a dreary everyday life and then tackle it again with full energy after playing.
However, they can also lead to the player’s priorities shifting and the tasks and obligations of everyday life being neglected.
Ultimately, MMORPGs are also just plain fun and serve as a welcome break from everyday life.
In summary, we learned from Mr. Brühwiler’s lines that MMORPGs:
have a strong social factor through functions like clans that convey a sense of comforting togetherness
satisfy human primary needs that are sometimes lost to us in modern everyday life
trigger a release of happiness hormones in the brain that, especially in habitual use, can lead to dangerous consumption
are similar to a medication, where it depends on whether the user can handle it
Whether MMORPGs become a monster that haunts us or our oasis of happiness depends entirely on how we handle the medium.
How do I know if I am at risk of addiction?
These are criteria for the diagnosis of gaming addiction: According to the APA (American Psychological Association), at least 5 of the 9 criteria from the graphic below must apply to diagnose gaming addiction.The APAis alarge North American professional association for psychology. The symptoms are based on those for pathological gambling addiction.
These 9 criteria can be found in the manual for mental disorders (DSM-5) of the “American Psychological Association.” This catalog is used in the USA for the definition of mental illnesses.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also has such a guide (ICD-11 catalog) and establishes a total of 3 criteria for the diagnosis of Gaming Disorder:
the priority of gaming over other activities
the frequency and duration of gaming
continuing to play despite negative consequences

The reloading of objects and the environment in a densely populated city runs much smoother and faster on the next-gen PlayStation than on Sony’s current flagship.
Where does the information come from? Takashi Mochizuki, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal known for his numerous insider tips on Sony, posted this video on Twitter. The video was apparently recorded with a mobile phone and does not provide the best quality, but the comparison is still clear.
The video may not yet be representative of the full capabilities of the PlayStation 5, but it is already a glimpse into the potential of the upcoming console generation from Sony, which is expected to be released in 2020.
Elsweyr, the new chapter add-on for The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is here. Our author Jürgen has already explored the lands of the Khajiit and is excited.
I had waited more eagerly for no ESO add-on than for Elsweyr. Now it’s finally here, and I’ve immediately logged into ESO after work.
And just after a few seconds, my anticipation was greater than ever, as the new music from the loading screen perfectly set the mood for what was to come. The ESO soundtrack has always been brilliant to me, and the latest piece impresses with familiar sounds and typical Khajiit desert flair.
If the rest of Elsweyr continues like this, it can only be good.
This is how Elsweyr plays: After I first completed the prologue quest and let the dragons loose in Elsweyr, I set out to recapture the beasts. I reached Elsweyr quickly and easily via teleport to the new capital, Rimmen.
And the new landscape is ideally suited for this. The strange land of the Khajiit impresses with wild romantic mountain regions, in which numerous ruins and ancient temples are found. The developers have already revealed that Elsweyr is one of the oldest realms of the continent, and you can definitely feel it.
One gets the impression of wandering through a land that has seen an incredible amount. The current threat from the dragons may be severe right now, but relative to the age of Elsweyr, the current crisis is nothing.
This is the mood at launch: Additionally, ESO still maintains a lively and large community, many of whom were in the game at launch. It’s always a special feeling to be present at the launch of a game or major add-on, and it was no different in Elsweyr.
The mood at launch is wonderful.
Everywhere players were exploring the area, completing quests, admiring the view, clearing dungeons, or hunting dragons. There was always someone there who wanted to share an adventure with me. That’s a great feeling of community.
Elsweyr is full of life
How beautiful Elsweyr is: What differentiates Elsweyr from other ESO add-ons in my eyes is the fascinating world that has been created for the add-on. Because Elsweyr is not just any land where strange cats live instead of elves or humans.
You meet cool Khajiit everywhere.
The developers have once again put in a lot of effort and invested a lot of passion to create a truly credible and unique atmosphere. This starts with the fact that the buildings of the Khajiit look completely different from those of the other races of Tamriel.
Even those who know the Khajiit outskirts from the base game will be surprised again at how impressive the cat folk build.
My highlight in the cat pub: And then there is the society of the Khajiit. My highlight was actually not a dragon fight, but a visit to a Khajiit pub. There, a furry bard sings continuously about tasty moon sugar, a grumpy Nord complains about the beer, which of course has also been refined with moon sugar (he’s still drunk), and then there’s a 3-meter tall giant tiger sitting in the pub!

That alone is already insane, but then the creature has a water pipe and seems to be reading a book that lies before its massive snout! If that isn’t strange enough: The tiger has a name and can speak. In deep, rumbling tones, the monster (a Khajiit variant called Senche-rath) boasts that this place is very dear to him and that he has his home here.
The naturalness with which Elsweyr incorporates such bizarre elements as talking cats into the game world makes the add-on something truly special.
Dragon fights are epic!
This is how the dragons work: I only learn of the obvious highlight of the add-on late in my first trek. When a dragon appears, it is marked prominently on the map. Then the beast flutters over the map until it is ultimately engaged at a certain location for combat.
This is how an epic dragon fight unfolds: What happens next can be roughly compared to the world events around the dolmens (base game) or the geysers (Summerset). There, you had to eliminate waves of monsters at specific times in specific locations, and in the end, there was a boss and then (hopefully) loot.
Oh no, it has discovered me!
In Elsweyr, dragons take this position, but unlike previous world events, they are mobile and can move around.
And these dragons are hefty boss enemies that can only be defeated in a team. I, as a poor Khajiit Nightblade, got too close to one creature and was suddenly engulfed by flames. That was it! Barely revived, the beast whacked me with its tail.
Dragons do not stay still but flutter around.
Life number 2 gone. Only after several deaths did I get the hang of it and keep my distance while numerous players bravely fought, only to regularly die in dragon fire.
I involuntarily had to think of a specific episode of Game of Thrones…
Only with concentrated fire does a dragon kneel!
Dragons are not supposed to be 08-15 punching bags, and the developers have indeed succeeded well. Only under massive fire from a superior force did the creature’s massive hit points finally melt away, and in the end, it lay in the dust before us. An epic dance and celebration party erupted among the players, and there was nice loot on top of that.
Compared to the rather boring geysers from Summerset, dragon fights are clearly a huge plus for Elsweyr.
Therefore, it feels like half the server is hunting them when one appears. Elsweyr is likely to survive the dragon plague just like all the other crises before it. The players will make sure of that.
Jürgen’s conclusion: Elsweyr is the best ESO chapter so far
Like all ESO add-ons, Elsweyr doesn’t actually reinvent anything. The new chapter is as conservative as the two before and basically only brings new quests, new areas, a new story, and a new form of world events. So nothing that hasn’t already been seen in previous add-ons.
We can hardly wait to return to Elsweyr!
But especially the grandiosely staged world, the epic dragon fights, and the fact that Elsweyr is not a self-contained add-on, but part of a large campaign about dragons makes it something truly new and exciting in my eyes.
I have never had as much fun with Summerset, which was undoubtedly good, as I have had after just 3 hours in Elsweyr. I can hardly wait to log back into the game and continue exploring my Khajiit heroine’s homeland.

In Overwatch, the cool cowboy McCree has received a minor buff on the test server. However, this has far-reaching consequences and makes the hero strong again.
What does the buff on the test server do? The patch notes for the current test server builds don’t mention anything spectacular about McCree. It simply states:
The time between shots in primary fire has been reduced from 0.5 to 0.4 seconds
As a reason, Blizzard stated:
“On average, McCree’s damage output was not sufficient to justify his relatively low mobility and utility. By reducing the time between shots, we ensure that damage output is increased without changing the number of hits required for a kill.”

What effect does the buff have in the game? 0.1 seconds may not sound very impressive at first. However, initial tests by players have shown that McCree’s damage output has increased from a meager 140 DPS to a hefty 175 DPS due to the buff.
Additionally, there is a reduction in recoil, which also makes McCree more accurate and precise.
How players are reacting to the new McCree: The fact that McCree now deals more damage and shoots more accurately makes him a good counter against fast and fragile heroes like Tracer. The 3 Best Builds of the Witch Doctor in Season 17
Until the last Season 16, the Witch Doctor was barely able to participate in the lower regions of the tier list. Meanwhile, it has become a good all-rounder with balanced builds.
The three best builds of the Witch Doctor make it into tier A, while the best combination even takes overall place 8.
Jade Witch Doctor (Tier A) – In Season 16, the Witch Doctor landed in Tier S. Due to the season theme around the LoN set, this build drops to Tier A.
Zuni DoD (Tier A) – This completely new combination goes directly into Tier A. The foundation of this build is the Zunimassa set.

In The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) has now had the new expansion Elsweyr available on PC for almost a week. Time to check the community’s reactions.
Since May 20, 2019, you can at least play Elsweyr on PC. The third chapter expansion for The Elder Scrolls Online takes you to Elsweyr, the land of the Khajiit cat people. There are also dragons roaming around, and for the first time, you can play the long-awaited class of the Necromancer.
