A “World First Kill” in World of Warcraft is quite expensive in preparation. The guild Limit reveals what they had to pay for Denathrius.

A few days ago, the race for the first kill of Count Denathrius on mythical difficulty in World of Warcraft came to an end. After an exciting race, the US guild Complexity Limit managed to defeat the Lord of Revendreth first.

This is how expensive the race was: The treasurer of Complexity Limit revealed how costly the whole race was for the guild. In the end, the debts to other players amount to a staggering 331 million gold pieces. If one were to buy this amount of gold pieces with real money – in the form of WoW tokens – it would have a total price of $57,068 or approximately €46,729.

What was so expensive? The high gold costs arise in various ways. On the one hand, the entire guild must be equipped with buff food, potions, and other enhancement effects with each attempt, which can be quite costly for a 20-man raid with up to over 100 attempts per evening.

However, the lion’s share was the purchasing of BoE items. These items become bound to a character only when equipped and can thus be sold on the auction house. Since Shadowlands is still relatively new, many characters were able to purchase 3-4 epic items to optimize themselves even further. Depending on the server and the quality of these items, the price of such items is in the hundreds of thousands of gold pieces.

Other races were expensive too: The hunt for a first kill being really expensive is by the way not a rarity. For the battle of Dazar’Alor, the guild Method paid between 40 million and 100 million gold pieces. For the race in Ny’alotha, Complexity Limit incurred 257 million gold.

Is this already pay-to-win? The community is actively discussing whether such a first kill isn’t at least a bit “pay-to-win” if one buys strong equipment with gold that can then in turn be financed through WoW tokens and thus real money.

While one cannot completely dismiss an advantage from gold, it should not be forgotten that the raids also demand a lot from the pros in terms of gameplay. Individual mistakes immediately lead to the death of the entire group, and a nearly perfect playstyle is necessary – something that cannot be bought with gold.

The covenants in WoW: Shadowlands are still causing complaints among players. Kyrians and Venthyr feel significantly disadvantaged.

Meanwhile, World of Warcraft Shadowlands has been released for over a month and players have distributed themselves among the four covenants. However, two of the four covenants feel strongly disadvantaged. The Venthyr and Kyrians are complaining, as one of the major covenant features does not work as well for them as it does for the Night Fae and Necrolords.

What is the problem? It concerns the adventure feature. Here, players can send their adventurers on missions to receive various rewards. These can be equipment but also important resources like Soul Ash or even mounts.

Due to the available heroes, Necrolords and Night Fae can handle quite challenging missions. Kyrians and Venthyr are left empty-handed. In the elite missions that grant Soul Ash, they often fail, even though they are 10 levels or more above the required level.

In comparison: There are Night Fae and Necrolord players who complete level 60 missions with heroes at level 35 and thus obtain mounts and other great rewards.

What did Blizzard say? A few weeks ago, Blizzard addressed this issue. The problem here was that in the beta, they only tested the adventure tables with full equipment – all testers already had all adventurers of their covenant together.

In the live version, players unlock these adventurers gradually. It is suspected that only after about 4 months, when players reach Glory Level 40, will all adventurers be unlocked.

The problem is therefore that the covenants currently have very unbalanced adventurers. A problem that should fix itself over time as more and more adventurers become available.

System has more issues: However, the adventure table has more problems. One of them concerns the troops. These are basically “non-heroes” that can fill up your team when not enough adventurers are available. However, these troops vary massively from covenant to covenant. For example, Night Fae have extremely potent healers who can absorb large spikes of damage well.

But something else is troubling about the troops: They can level down. The troops always have the level that corresponds to the average of their own adventurers. If the player receives a new adventurer at level 1, the average level of the troops can decrease, and thus their combat power as well.

Whether Blizzard simply “sits this problem out” until players actually have their entire adventurer pool available or whether the developers will make adjustments for Kyrians and Venthyr remains to be seen.

The WoW addon “Mythic Dungeon Tools” for WoW got a paywall. Players reacted quickly and trolled the developer.

Many players can no longer imagine World of Warcraft without interface addons. Whether it’s boss mods, expansions for RP descriptions, or useful enhancements for selling in the auction house – addons are very useful and popular. But sometimes there is also drama surrounding the interface extensions.

What happened? The addon “Mythic Dungeon Tool” (MDT) was extremely popular in recent months. It allowed players to plan dungeons of high difficulty in advance and calculate an exact route to achieve 100% completion of a “Mythic+” dungeon and strive for maximum efficiency. However, when updating to the latest version, players noticed that some features of the addon no longer worked. Instead, there was a note that the missing features could be unlocked through payment.

Why was there a paywall? The author Nnoggie, whom players might know from the professional guild Echo, lost control slightly during a stream. During a raid, viewers repeatedly demanded that he update his addon. The viewers had a clear expectation that the addon would be brought up to date quickly. Nnoggie was already in a bad mood and reacted irritably. With rather harsh words, he explained that he would remove MDT from Curseforge (an addon database). Later he added that “he should pay to use the addon”.

That’s exactly what happened. The addon has some functions now hidden behind an additional download, such as the exact data of the trash mobs. So the addon is limited in its functions and requires the additional download, which is paid.

Community reacts quickly: Shortly after MDT integrated this paywall, another addon was released. It had exactly the same function as MDT but was called “Manbaby Dungeon Tools.” Manbaby refers to “giant baby” and is meant to mock the original author.

Even the RP addon TotalRP3 was trolled

Sometimes, however, there are disputes between individual creators of addons. For instance, the developer of addon A builds code into his addon that intentionally restricts and hinders the functionality of addon B. Just a few hours ago, this happened to the authors of the “TotalRP3” addon. They noticed that the creator of the addon Altoholic/Datastore had implemented code so that TotalRP3 no longer functions.

TotalRP3 is an addon for roleplayers that allows them to recognize other roleplayers immediately or to create additional descriptions and notes for their characters.

According to one of the creators of TotalRP3 (Solanya), corresponding code was found in the addons Altoholic and Datastore that is supposed to delete profiles in TotalRP3. This was confirmed by several sources. Shortly after this was made known on Twitter, the developer of Altoholic/Datastore released a new update and the code was gone from the lines.

Do addon authors need more rules? How to deal with such a case is probably not entirely clear. As a simple user of the addons, it is almost impossible to recognize when one addon intentionally adversely affects another. Generally, such behavior would presumably not please the addon databases either.
