The indie MMORPG Ashes of Creation has uploaded new material from the “Alpha One Preview”: In a 30-minute boss fight, the studio head, Steven Sharif, and 5 of his colleagues beat a boss. Fans are excited: They see Ashes of Creation as the new and only MMORPG hope for 2021 and beyond.
Where does the fight come from? From December 18 to 21, 2020, the “Alpha 1 – Preview Pre-Test 1” was run for Ashes of Creation.
The Alpha test was under NDA, just like the next two tests in February and March 2021 will also be under NDA. Only in April 2021, when Alpha 1 starts, will the “You are not allowed to say or show anything” agreement be lifted, and more videos of Ashes of Creation will likely be released.
At the moment, we only know the official videos from the team.
In the video, a group of 6 developers shows the fight against “Epic Bosses” in one of the new zones.
“Everything is still in progress”
What the developers say: The group of 6 fighters is led by Steven Sharif, the controversial head of the team. He says: They had an insane amount of fun in Alpha One with “thousands of testers” breaking all sorts of things.
They are now showing the boss fight but say: Everything is still “in progress”.
This is still “Early Footage”; in March 2021 they want to present the revised combat system. But they are already extremely proud of what they have accomplished and want to show it.
This is seen in the video: There is a long boss fight: Apparently, the group of bosses is actually intended for a larger raid – the GMs are only playing with 6 people. There seems to have been some balancing tweaks because the players seem to be able to take a lot of damage.
A special highlight in the boss fight is that players are thrown across the map. Laughter ensues when Steven Sharif is thrown off a few screens and even lands in the water.
Fans praise the great development of the MMORPG in 2020
This is how the video is received: The sentiment in the comments below the video is excellent. Commenting are mostly fans who have been following the development of the MMORPG Ashes of Creation for a long time. It says:
- The combat system looks better; it has more weight now
- One says: This is the only game he is looking forward to
- Another praises the overall progress that Ashes of Creation has made in 2020
- Overall, the graphics and effects are praised. It is also said that the developers should take their time and not release too early like Cyberpunk 2077
Ashes of Creation seems to be recovering from the setback caused by the failed experiment of the battle royale spinoff “Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse” with such gameplay videos from the alpha of the MMORPG.
The mood at the end of 2020 seems to be significantly better and more hopeful than in 2019. The team emphasized, however, how important “Apocalypse” is for the development of the MMORPG, but apparently, things went wrong.

Ashes of Creation is on the wish list of many MMORPG veterans. Our author Andreas Bertits also hopes that Ashes of Creation becomes a hit and meets the high expectations:
I have been playing MMORPGs for over 22 years – I am looking forward to these 5 new ones
