While many players are still chewing on “Mythic+10” in WoW, the first group is already tackling Mythic+20 – the result was clear.

While Christmas is usually a time for reflection, there are some players in World of Warcraft who want nothing to do with it. They are breaking record after record and have now reached another milestone. The first dungeon on the difficulty “Mythic+20” has been mastered – and the players still had almost 5% of the time remaining, meaning they could have taken it a bit slower.

What happened? The first players have completed a dungeon on the difficulty “Mythic+20” within the time limit in WoW: Shadowlands. This was the case in Tirna Scithe, one of the two dungeons in Ardenweald. Tirna Scithe is considered one of the easiest dungeons in terms of adhering to the time limit, but a “+20” stone is still a massive challenge. The group consisted of:

• Vengeance Demon Hunter (Radspaper)
• Restoration Shaman (Furo)
• Fire Mage (Brainx)
• Affliction Warlock (Eddielock)
• Outlaw Rogue (Seliathan)

How did the group achieve this? On one hand, the group consists of very good players who also have strong gear. All of them had an item level between 210 and 217, which is currently close to the achievable maximum.

On the other hand, the team is also using some of the strongest “meta classes” that are particularly well suited for dungeons right now. Demon Hunters as tanks are extremely popular, as are Shamans as healers and Fire Mages as DPS. All these classes are currently considered very dominant in Mythic Keystone dungeons.

Night Fae provide additional bonuses: Additionally, it helped that the group had a Night Fae player. This allowed them to take a small shortcut at the beginning and gain access to special mushrooms that temporarily increase attributes by 10% – an important buff for the first boss and the subsequent maze with many trash mobs. Such small advantages exist for all covenants in 2 of the 8 dungeons.

By the way, the group is not a “one-hit wonder”; they are already known for their records. On the Raider.io they currently hold 11 of the 20 hardest keystone records, although they occasionally change their group composition a bit. However, the core team is always the same.

If WoW bosses can’t win, they resort to sneaky tricks. One simply ports players out of the dungeon when they aren’t paying attention.

In World of Warcraft, there are often some curious incidents and small bugs that lead to funny events. Especially at the launch of an expansion, there can be problems that get fixed quite quickly. However, the Gorm final boss from Tirna Scithe has secretly learned new tricks. He simply throws players out of the dungeon with a sneaky trick.

What happened? The Reddit user re3zee was quite surprised when he was taken over by Tred’ova, the final boss of the Tirna Scithe dungeon. Instead of attacking his teammates while under mind control, the death knight suddenly started casting a spell – and soon found himself on the loading screen. Tred’ova had forced the player to use his hearthstone, sending him to his inn and thereby excluding him from the fight.

How is that possible? If Tred’ova is not regularly interrupted, he will hurl parasites at the players that have different effects. One of them takes control of the player until they are freed by their teammates – usually by inflicting damage on the player to reduce their health points to 50%.

This mind control also allows the boss to access all of the player’s abilities. Necrolords can unlock a “hearthstone” through their soulbind – it’s an additional spell that works like a hearthstone but has its own cooldown. It was exactly this spell that Tred’ova used to coldly throw the death knight out of the dungeon.

Necrolords should be a bit careful when approaching Tred’ova with their hearthstone – because the great Gorm matriarch might be even smarter than we all thought.

Melee fighters in World of Warcraft are shouting out. They feel disadvantaged – and hardly anyone wants to take them along.

For just over two weeks now, players have been running mythic dungeons in WoW: Shadowlands. While this is still relatively easy at normal mythic difficulty, there are additional challenges in “Mythic+”. Particularly, melee fighters are currently unpopular.

What’s going on? Many melee fighters are currently complaining in the official forum and on the WoW subreddit. Despite good equipment, they are often not included in dungeon groups. Again and again, there are descriptions stating that they simply do not want any melee fighters in the party. For example, the user Korgozz writes a bit cynically on reddit: “If you have item level 200 but don’t play a ranged character”:

Other users also repeatedly post images of groups that simply don’t want any melee fighters – aside from the tank, of course.

Why are melee fighters unpopular? This is mainly due to two reasons that reinforce each other. In Shadowlands, there are again quite a few mechanics that cause problems primarily for melee fighters. These can be whirlwind attacks or areas that force melee fighters to keep their distance.

As a result, melee fighters either deal significantly less damage or take a lot of damage themselves, which stresses the healers.

Especially in the last week, there was a whirlwind caused by the affixes that always appeared within melee range. This knocked players back and dealt damage to them. Ranged fighters had virtually no issues with this, as the whirlwind only appears close to enemies. Ranged fighters can therefore continue to deal damage without any problems and only have to deal with the usual boss mechanics.

How could this be solved? Finding a comprehensive solution is difficult. If negative effects impacted melee fighters less, all players would simply flock to melee – including ranged players. It might help to modify the affixes so that ranged and melee fighters are equally affected by all affixes. However, this is not so easy to achieve due to the very different play styles.

However, the problem is not really new. Almost every expansion there is an outcry that melee fighters are particularly hard hit and thus lose performance – this time, it’s just particularly evident.

In addition, melee fighters also bring quite a few useful traits with them, as they can usually interrupt enemy spells much more often. Just this alone is a good reason to have at least one or two melee in the group.
