With update 1.2, the “Chalk and Dragons” event in Genshin Impact has started. With this, you can not only earn plenty of nice rewards but also receive a special 4-star weapon and a “Crown of Wisdom”. Here, you will learn why the event is worth it for you.

What is it about? On December 23, 2020, the “Chalk and Dragons” event in Genshin Impact started. On the same day, the major update 1.2 of the game officially launched. This expanded the world by another area.

With Albedo and his investigation team, you will venture into the new area Dragonspine and start searching for a special sword.

Genshin Impact Event: How the Event Works

What you need to keep in mind: The event is structured similarly to past events in Genshin Impact. It consists of four acts that will be unlocked gradually. The following four acts are available:

• The first act has already started and was released with the update to 1.2.
• The second act is available from December 25, 2020.
• The third act is available from December 28, 2020.
• The fourth and final act will be unlocked on December 31, 2020.

How to start the first task: To start the event, you must complete the legendary quest “Princeps Cretaceus” from Albedo. This can be found in the event menu. Then you need to go to the Alchemist’s lab in Mondstadt. You can find it in the main square with the fountain, in the middle of Mondstadt. Here, you must talk to Albedo.

New Weapon: “Sword of Corruption”

What kind of weapon is this? The “Sword of Corruption” is a 4-star one-handed sword. You will receive it when you complete the quest “Sword of Corruption” during the event period. This offers you the following bonuses in addition to its attack:

• The elemental damage of abilities is increased by 16%.
• Additionally, the chance for critical hits with elemental abilities is increased by 6%.

This is why it is special: With “Dragon’s Mark of Corruption”, you can upgrade the sword a total of 5 levels. You receive the Dragon’s Mark from the event merchant.

During the event, you will unlock special weapon abilities for the weapon that you can use as soon as you equip the weapon.

Complete all challenges of Acts 1, 2, and 3 to unlock a skill of the “Sword of Corruption” for each act.

What happens after the event? After the event, these abilities will no longer function, but the weapon remains a strong one-handed weapon.

Genshin Impact Event: Additional Rewards

What kind of currency is this? During the event, you can collect “Beacon Tincture”, “Heat Tincture”, and “Wonder Tincture” during the challenges.

What can you spend the currency on? You can exchange the tinctures for various items:

• Materials for character ascension such as “Wisdom of a Hero”, which gives you 20,000 EXP per use.
• Mystical Enhancement Ore, which can be used to upgrade your weapons.
• Various materials for talent enhancement.
• The Crown of Wisdom, a material needed for character talents.

You can collect the tinctures until January 5, 2021. The event merchant will also be available to you until January 12, 2021.

Today the new update 1.2 for Genshin Impact arrived. Here are the main contents that you can now play.

This is the new area: In patch 1.2, players can now enter the new area “Dragonspine”, which is a high snowy mountain.

But the area is not only beautiful, but also dangerous. The reason for this is new enemies on one hand, and on the other hand, the new mechanic called “Extreme Cold Environment”.

While you are on the summit, you will receive the status “Bitter Cold”, which keeps increasing. When it reaches the highest level, your character starts to lose health points. You can prevent this by warming up at campfires, which will lower the status.

Additionally, there is a large tree on the mountain called the Permafrost Tree. Here you can sacrifice the new item “Bloodred Agates”. These are scattered all over the mountain and grant you cool rewards when you give them to the tree. These include:

• Predestined Fate,
• Woven Fate,
• Wind Glider,
• Weapon Blueprints
• and more

This is the new event: You can also play the new event “Chalk and Dragons” in the new area, which was leaked previously. As a reward, you will receive the 4-star claymore “Sword of Corruption”.

You must complete various challenges on Dragonspine to receive tinctures. You can then exchange these at the special vendor for various items. This is particularly worthwhile because the vendor has a Crown of Wisdom with him again.

The event ends on January 5, 2021. The vendor will disappear a week later on January 12, 2021.

Two new 5-star characters

This is Albedo, the Chalk Prince: Albedo is one of the two new 5-star characters coming to Genshin Impact with update 1.2.

• Element: Geo
• Weapon: Claymore

Albedo is a gifted alchemist and the mentor of the character Sucrose. He also leads the investigation team of the Knights of Favonius as their captain.

He is considered a genius in Mondstadt and is very popular with the populace. Even the little wild Klee respects him and follows his instructions.

This is Ganyu, the Lunar Guardian: Ganyu is also a 5-star character, but she hails from the port city of Liyue.

• Element: Cryo
• Weapon: Bow

Ganyu is the ambassador and secretary in Liyue and is a very calm and reserved person. She is loyal to the Geo God Rex Lapis and is good friends with Beidou.

Moreover, Ganyu is not a human, but a half-Qilin, as the blood of a divine beast flows in her veins.

Although Ganyu came into the game with update 1.2, she is currently not available in the wishes. According to the developers, she will be available in a later promotional wish.

This is the new equipment: The update also introduced a number of new weapons and artifacts:

• Claymore “Summit Breaker” (5 stars)
• The aforementioned “Sword of Corruption” (4 stars)
• Claymore “Buried Star Silver” (4 stars)
• Polearm “Dragon’s Spear” (4 stars)
• Catalyst “Permafrost Fruit” (4 stars)
• Artifact sets “Wandering Knight in the Snow” and “Deep in the Heart”

These gifts are also available: To release the update, the servers of Genshin Impact had to be temporarily taken offline. miHoYo apologizes for this and gives you 300 Primogems as compensation. However, you must have reached adventure level 5.

In addition, the event “Return of the Constellations” is currently running in Genshin Impact, which lures inactive players back into the game. There are also rewards in the form of Primogems, as well as other gifts you can obtain.

Genshin Impact wants to win back lost players. Those who return will receive powerful weapons and even Primogems for free.

In recent weeks, many big games have been released. Releases like WoW: Shadowlands, Cyberpunk 2077, and many others have caused some players to lose focus on Genshin Impact a bit. However, the developers already have an idea of how they want to entice you back into the game with Patch 1.2 – with plenty of rewards.

Update: 12/23/2020: Today the developers released Update 1.2. The rewards are now active.

Who can receive these rewards? The rewards are for all players who:

• have not been online in Genshin Impact for at least 14 consecutive days
• have Adventure Rank 10 or higher
• have not benefited from this bonus in the last 45 days

If this is the case, you can benefit from the bonuses after the implementation of the patch and the expiration of the time.

Keep in mind that these 14 days will likely only begin with the launch of Patch 1.2 – starting from 12/23.

What are these rewards? The “Stellar Reunion” returnee event will be activated upon logging in if the requirements described above are met. The event consists of a total of 4 components.

• Reunion Rewards: During the event, players can collect Primogems, Resin, and other rewards. These rewards are one-time only.
• Passage of Time: These are login rewards available every day. They include Primogems, Resin, experience items, and more.
• “Homeward Path” quest rewards: Certain quests can be completed during the event to accumulate points. The points can be exchanged for various bonuses, including a prototype weapon. This bonus can only be claimed once.
• “Reunion Blessing” – Double Loot: Returnees receive 3 opportunities each day during the event to get double rewards from spheres and ley line outcrops.

After the event ends, progress will be reset and all unclaimed rewards will expire.

Isn’t that unfair? Those who are permanent players do not benefit from this event and may feel somewhat disadvantaged. However, the rewards are probably not so great as to surpass the items and rewards earned if one was an active player during the 14 days. The bonus is therefore mainly helpful in providing some incentives for players who have taken a break.
