What kind of games are these? The selected games are online games that you can experience together with friends or even completely unknown players. Each game either celebrates its release in January 2022 or receives an update that brings major new features.

What kind of game is this? In the anime action RPG Genshin Impact you fight monsters, explore a colorful fantasy world, and complete quests. During this, you unlock new characters and equipment.
This can either be done through the regular game or through a controversial gacha system, where you have to spend real money to get loot boxes containing weapons or heroes.
However, the game impresses with a variety of quests, daily missions, and new service updates, making it almost a kind of MMO.

Genshin Impact visually strongly resembles the game Zelda: Breath of the Wild. However, it offers not only graphics but also several gameplay highlights:
On January 5th, the new patch 2.4 will be released. It brings, among other things, two new characters, the heroes Shenhe and Yin Jin. In addition, you can expect new story quests, a new map, and many new monsters.
In January, the Lantern Festival in Liyue is also making a comeback, which some players may already know from last year. However, in 2022, there will be a new event boss that is described as particularly strong.

The MMORPG expert and Twitch streamer Asmongold has addressed the problems of the current MMORPG New World and why he believes that in 2022 the MMORPG Lost Ark could surpass Amazon’s game.

For years, WoW was the dominant MMORPG on Twitch – hardly any other MMORPG played a role on the streaming platform. However, this changed in 2021 with the rise of Final Fantasy XIV, the major problems at Blizzard, and the emergence of new MMORPGs like New World.

Lost Ark is booming in South Korea lately
Is Lost Ark really that successful in Korea? Yes, indeed. Lost Ark is, as Asmongold says, one of the few MMORPGs that has experienced a strong evolution after launch.
Especially in 2021, Lost Ark enjoyed a significant boost in South Korea. This is partly due to the fact that the extremely popular but old MMORPG “Maple Story” fell out of favor among South Korean players after a scandal in March 2021. Many apparently switched to Lost Ark after it was revealed that certain mechanics in Maple Story didn’t work as intended. Many players felt this was cheating.
But Lost Ark also seems to be growing stronger in South Korea on its own. According to a report from the Polish site MMORPG.org.pl, the number of new users has quintupled in recent weeks. Now, there are even queues in the game.
This is due to the announcement of the new continent “Rowen” with large realm vs realm battles, and in January 2022 a new class “Painter” is also expected, which uses brushes and drawing paper to fight.
Regarding Lost Ark, it is said that they plan to consistently release new content:
Some things in World of Warcraft are hardly affordable. Like this mount – for which someone has now paid over 4,000 euros.
Even though most things in the great MMORPG World of Warcraft can be earned, there are a number of mounts, pets, and toys that can only be obtained through indirect means – like the use of real money. This time we are referring to a real rarity, not a mount for 20 euros from the shop.
What happened? A WoW mount was sold on the auction platform eBay for a quite hefty price. The buyer shelled out a whopping $4,900, which amounts to about 4,300 €! That was the steep price for a small piece of printed cardboard, as it is about the Spectral Tiger.
What kind of mount is this? The Spectral Tiger is basically modeled after a classic Night Elf saber, but with a special twist. The saber is actually transparent and thus has its “spectral” name. In World of Warcraft, it is already a rare sight due to its rarity, even though there are now other mounts with a similar look – but no variant of the Spectral Tiger.

Why is the mount so expensive? The reason for this is that the mount can only be obtained through physical trading cards from the aforementioned “World of Warcraft Trading Card Game”. However, the game was discontinued years ago, and new cards have not been printed for a long time.

In the Trading Card Game, there were so-called “loot cards” that had a small code printed on them. The code can be redeemed in World of Warcraft at an NPC, granting the respective loot.
In other words: All Spectral Tiger cards currently in circulation are probably the only ones that will ever exist. The card was already extremely rare back then, and each year the number of cards that are still unused in circulation decreases.
Whether the cards are purchased for personal use or if they will be resold later is unknown – however, such a rare card could also represent a solid investment.

Twitch Drops fuel the resurgence of the shooter on Twitch 2022
Why is that? Since 2019, Escape from Tarkov has taken the lead on Twitch at the end of each year. This is because the game traditionally offers Twitch Drops before the turn of the year, making watching Tarkov particularly worthwhile:

However, DrDisrespect admits that such a change would likely affect the “brutal hardcore nature” of the shooter. They made the game as they deemed fit – he accepts that too. DrDisrespect says he really likes Tarkov and wishes for more players for the shooter. But this barrier prevents it from achieving great success.

How is FFXIV financed? The business model of FFXIV is pay-to-play. This means that you need to purchase the game and the expansions. If you want to play longer than one month, you need to subscribe, which costs 10.99 € or 12.99 € per month.

This is how FFXIV eases your entry: The MMORPG is designed to make it as easy as possible for new players to get started. The difficulty level at the beginning is very low and you can explore the game at your own pace. The game allows you to play at your own pace, and no one forces you to hurry to reach the endgame.
The tutorial system will show you an explanatory text for every new mechanic and feature.
The main scenario quests are the red thread that guides you through all the areas of the game and tells the story of FFXIV. These quests are mandatory.

Is it possible to catch up with the veterans? One of the concerns new players have is that in old MMORPGs there is hardly a chance to catch up with veteran players. This is not the case with FFXIV.
You can play the game at your own pace. The old content at low levels is kept current through daily bonuses and is still frequently utilized by experienced players. So you will not find yourself in a situation where no one can be found for a story or leveling dungeon for days. Usually, the queues for such content rarely last longer than 20-30 minutes.

Japanese Style: FFXIV is a Japanese MMORPG, and you can see that at first glance. The stylized graphics are cleaner and more colorful compared to Western games like WoW or Elder Scrolls and provide an aesthetic typical for many Japanese games.

The story of FFXIV is told through countless cutscenes. They can be tragic, exciting, and epic, but also casual and funny. Sometimes you also get multiple dialogue options to choose from.
Beginner-Friendlyfor MMORPG Newbies: Even if you are completely new to the MMORPG genre, you should give FFXIV a chance. The learning curve is very low and well-suited for newcomers, as it is almost impossible to get lost.
You don’t need to read a lot of guides on builds or skill trees for the jobs at the beginning; you can directly start with whichever one seems fun to you. In the meta of FFXIV, no job is completely useless, and you will not be kicked out of a group because you have the “wrong” job.
So if you want to try out the genre as a MMORPG newcomer, then Final Fantasy XIV is a good option. For veterans who already know all the tricks, the entry might feel sluggish and less exciting.
Little PvP: There is not even an open-world PvP with the consent of the participating players, and according to the director’s statement, it will never come. PvP battles are held in arenas and instances.
While there are several different modes, such as large-scale battles or Rival Wings, which is reminiscent of a MOBA, they have failed to establish themselves. The wait times for a match can therefore become quite long.
If PvP in an MMORPG is unimportant to you and you prefer to focus on PvE content, then FFXIV is just right for you. PvP fans, on the other hand, will not really be happy with the game.
With Patch 6.1 of Endwalker, a new PvP mode came to FFXIV, where you must fight over a crystal.
Creative Activities: For the creative minds who do not want to just follow the given content, FFXIV offers a photo mode and composition.
In the photo mode called /gpose, players can take enhanced screenshots and receive various filters and overlays from the game. You can capture your character in a cool pose or immortalize a beautiful sunset.

Difficult Endgame Content: Those seeking a challenge will find epic, extreme, and ultimate boss fights. These raids differ from those known from WoW.
They consist of several boss fights occurring back-to-back and are carried out in groups of 8 people. The “jump rope” principle applies. This means that the mechanics must be executed correctly by the entire group in quick succession. Otherwise, everyone fails just as in playing jump rope together.
New epic raids are introduced approximately every 7 months.
Extreme boss fights occur at least once per patch, about every 4 months.
Ultimate, which are the toughest boss fights, come at irregular intervals, but there should be 2 per expansion.
Larger raids for 24 players also exist, but they are typically not very difficult.

Alexander Ultimate is currently the hardest fight in FFXIV. It has so many mechanics that it is almost impossible for outsiders to grasp what is actually happening.
Detailed Crafting System: Crafters and artisans can get lost in FFXIV’s crafting system, which is considered one of the most intricate in MMORPGs. Each crafter is considered a class with their own tools, armor, and skills.
