Destiny 2 offers a wealth of exotic weapons and armor that can make your Guardian stronger. Choosing the right gear is essential when you want to tackle the hardest content and secure crucial advantages.
It should be noted: You can only equip one exotic weapon and one exotic armor piece at a time. So the choice of Exotic should be well thought out.

Unlike exotic weapons, armor is always class-specific. Titans, Hunters, and Hunters have their own pieces of armor that can only be equipped by their respective class.

Celestial Nighthawk
The first Exotic for the Hunter is an old acquaintance for Destiny 1 veterans, the exotic helm Celestial Nighthawk makes its comeback! The following perk is offered by Celestial Nighthawk:
- Golden Gun grants only one shot, but deals massive damage. Targets killed with the golden gun explode
We recommend the following Hunter build if you want to play with the Celestial Nighthawk:
- Focus – Gunslinger Hunter
- Build – The Way of the Sniper
- Exotic Weapon – Stable weapons that easily allow critical hits
The purpose of the Celestial Nighthawk is to deal as much damage as possible with one shot of the golden gun. The helm is a true boss killer when used correctly. Through the Way of the Sniper, a focus branch, and its perk, Line ‘Em Up, you deal even more damage when you land critical hits.
Use the exotic weapon that suits you best. Precision hits reduce the cooldown of your super through the perk Practice Makes Perfect. If you’re dealing with a hefty boss like Calus from the Leviathan raid, you can use the golden gun more frequently.
Foetracer
The Foetracer looks a bit bulky but is very useful for the Hunter. The exotic helm comes with this intrinsic perk:
- Marks targeted enemies visibly. Deals more damage to marked enemies with low health
With the following build, you can shine with the Foetracer:
- Focus – Nightstalker Hunter
- Build – Any
- Exotic Weapon – PvP: MIDA Multi-Tool / PvE: Merciless
Even though the helm can be played with all focuses of the Hunter, the Nightstalker is particularly well suited. Because his smoke bombs and grenades can be thrown directly where the enemy is hiding. If he goes invisible, he becomes an almost invincible opponent.
While enemy marking is an excellent perk in the Crucible that can determine victory or defeat, the increased damage against low-health enemies is more useful in PvE content.
Because once the opponent is down to 30% health, you deal increased damage. This perk is especially valuable against bosses. In combination with Merciless, you become a DPS monster. Not only do your super abilities or grenades deal more damage, but your weapons also benefit from the damage buff.
Knucklehead Radar
The Knucklehead Radar is the third exotic helm for the Hunter and comes with the following perk:
- Radar remains active while aiming
The following build is recommended in combination with the Knucklehead Radar:
- Focus – Gunslinger Hunter
- Build – The Way of the Sniper
- Exotic Weapon – Borealis
Since the radar plays a rather secondary role in fighting against AI aliens, the helm is mainly recommended for the Crucible mode (unless you don’t have a MIDA Multi-Tool).
If you enjoy playing with sniper rifles and want to attack from a distance, the helm can be useful. Scout rifles also fit well here, as they are also ranged weapons. Unlike in Destiny 1, your radar now remains active when aiming with energy or power weapons. Even when aiming with the Golden Gun, your radar remains!
We recommended the Gunslinger with the build Way of the Sniper because it favors a precise playstyle. Generally, the helm is usable for all Hunter focuses.
