Blizzard is known for its brilliant cinematics. We show you the best cinematics that Warcraft has produced to date!
In its more than 25-year history, Warcraft has not only experienced numerous games and expansions but has also created plenty of cinematics with impressive scenes that have stayed in the memory of players. We have reviewed all the videos and in-game sequences once again and compiled a list. It’s time to present you the best.
Note: The article originally dates back to the summer of 2018 – we have updated it in March 2023.
Rank 6: Saurfang’s Mak’gora
Even though “Battle for Azeroth” does not go down in history as the best expansion of WoW, it has given us some of the best cinematics ever. The storyline surrounding Saurfang is particularly impressive, as the proud warrior first loses his honor in the Banshee’s false war and then tries to regain it. With a length of almost 25 minutes, “Saurfang’s Mak’gora” is a montage of this story and an important part of Warcraft – and visually just extremely sophisticated.
“These warriors have sworn to you. Many will die today.” – “Or perhaps … just one.”
Rank 5: Warcraft III – End of the Human Campaign
Prince Arthas is still the central figure of the Warcraft universe for many players, and this cinematic has significantly contributed to that. Arthas returns victorious from Northrend after hunting down Mal’ganis and finding the rune blade Frostmourne in the process.
In this sense: “What are you doing, my son?” – “Succeeding you, father!”
Rank 4: WoW: Legion – Varian’s Sacrifice
The beginning of the Legion expansion was marked by many losses on both sides. Even though Vol’jin’s death was sad, the portrayal does not compare to the heroic sacrifice of the King of Stormwind, who throws himself into the demonic armies to allow his comrades to escape.
“You will be remembered. The king who sacrificed everything – for nothing.”
Rank 3: WoW: Legion – Ysera’s Death
In Val’sharah, an area from Legion, players also had to be brave. There, the green dragon aspect Ysera was corrupted by the nightmare. The satyr Xavius turned Ysera into his servant, and the players were forced to fight against her. Her death is one of the most touching moments in the history of Warcraft.
Rank 2: Warbringer: Jaina
Preceding “Battle for Azeroth”, “Warbringer: Jaina” has already become a favorite among fans. The German translation is particularly praised and gives goosebumps. Jaina travels back to the battlefield where her father Daelin died and sings a folk song from Kul Tiras – warning her of it.
“If you don’t trust the daughter of the sea, beware of her.”
Rank 1: WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Intro
When Wrath of the Lich King was released, the cinematic introduction divided the player base. Many found it ‘too boring’, but over the years there has been more agreement about it. Hardly any video elicits more goosebumps from players than the reunion with Arthas. The letter recited by his father, describing the future of the prince of Lordaeron – just very different from how it came – still sends chills down the players’ spines today.
“My son, on the day of your birth, even the forests of Lordaeron whispered your name … Arthas.”
