The European mega-server (EU-PC) has been causing problems in The Elder Scrolls Online for quite some time. Players are unable to enter the game, and there are connection drops. The studio boss of ZeniMax Online is promising a solution now.
For some time now, there have been issues with the ESO servers. These manifest as failed connection attempts or connection drops, especially when demand is high, and in PVP, the servers become unreliable.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that the community has been complaining about poor hardware performance for a long time. During major events and in PVP, there have been recurring lags, causing a lot of frustration. Better performance is, therefore, also on the MeinMMO wish list for ESO in 2023.
The developers have responded to the feedback from the community and already promised last year to modernize the hardware. This is expected to make the servers more stable again. New hardware coming in April
What was announced? In a post on the ESO forum on January 30, 2023, Matt Firor spoke about the upcoming hardware change and disclosed details about the exact timeline. Due to logistics issues, the studio had to postpone the start of the action by 1-2 weeks. To make the hardware replacement as efficient as possible, the event calendar will also be adjusted.
Originally, a date in early March was planned. The delay in logistics now means that the date for the hardware change coincides with the launch of the ESO Update 37. Therefore, the developers chose a slightly later time. The hardware replacement for the PlayStation EU server is to take place shortly after the update for EU-PC. To prepare, there will be maintenance on February 7 for all EU realms.
During the actual hardware change, the servers will be down for about 14 hours. However, the duration may vary, so there will be another community update. In this, it will be announced on which day the change will take place and when the servers will be available again.
Which events will be postponed? To make the hardware change as efficient as possible, the developers are postponing some events. The event “Whitestrake’s Mayhem” is expected to take place only after the hardware change is completed.
