Fans of the sci-fi classic Battlestar Galactica can breathe a sigh of relief: There is finally news about the planned series. The work on the reboot is underway and it is said to be ‘in top shape,’ as producer Sam Esmail revealed.
What kind of series is it? The project is said to be a series set in the universe of Battlestar Galactica, or rather, Kampfstern Galactica, as the original was named in Germany in the 70s. The reboot by Robert Moore aired from 2004 to 2009 and is considered one of the best sci-fi series ever.
The new series was announced in September 2019 for Peacock, an American streaming service (via Filmstarts).
Sam Esmail has been hired as a producer, known for his thriller series Mr. Robot among others. He told the Hollywood Reporter in October 2019 that he got chills at the term ‘reboot’ for the project.
After all, Ronald D. Moore had hit a home run with his reboot. Instead of a simple reboot, Esmail plans to further explore the ‘rich and interesting mythology’ of Battlestar Galactica. Since then, there has been sporadic information about the project – until now (via 3DJuegos).

After the writers’ strike, there is now a screenplay draft
What does Esmail say now? In an interview with Deadline, Sam Esmail spoke on October 25 about Rami Malek, the star of his series Mr. Robot, his upcoming film Leave The World Behind – and the planned series on Battlestar Galactica.
Apparently, the double strike of actors and writers in Hollywood, which began in May 2023, had stalled the work on the series. You can read more about the strike from our colleagues at Moviepilot.
Well, I can’t speak for the movie, but as far as the television series is concerned, we are working on it. In fact, I just read a great draft, and it is really in good shape. Now that the strike is over – at least the WGA strike is over – we are back in development.
Fans can thus breathe a sigh of relief, as the project is apparently still happening. It is unclear how it will affect the planned film, which has been in development limbo since 2010. This film is set to share a universe with the series reboot.
With Alien: Romulus, another reboot of a cult classic is currently in development. The film series also desperately needed this, as one title received such poor ratings that director James Cameron lost interest in making another Alien film.
Most horror movies that are released nowadays often rely on classic elements like jump scares. That’s why films like Conjuring and Co. are so successful. But even in the horror genre, there are quirky films that leave you wondering what you just watched.
Some of the films on this list are funny, but some can be very disturbing. If you are susceptible to various stories or horror elements, you should inform yourself about what happens before watching. Websites like doesthedogdie.com offer good assistance.
How was the list created? The list is a mix of several factors. All the films are from recent years and a mix of more significant and less-known hidden gems. The themes and subgenres also provide variety. If your favorite hidden gem is not included, please let us know in the comments.
If you are really hardcore horror fans, this list is for you:

Bodies Bodies Bodies – Trailer for Gen-Z Horror
Comedian Pete Davidson stars in this quirky horror comedy, which mainly focuses on Gen Z and the social media generation. At a party, a group of teenagers plays the game Bodies Bodies Bodies. It evolves into a murder game where the party group has to survive and figure out who the killer is.
The film is a satirical take on current generations and somewhat resembles a modern version of a scary movie that never really becomes scary. However, it is still refreshing to watch such a horror comedy in a modern style, and a whodunit as a horror comedy is also fun.

Civilization VI England’s Ruler Trailer
What kind of game is it? In Civilization VI, you build your own civilization and can even rise to a world empire by the end.
You play Civilization VI turn-based and use different methods to decide the game in your favor. Especially the use of time and thus potentially hours-long rounds could be a reason for the popularity of Civilization VI.
On a fictional world map made up of many hexagons, you compete with your people against other nations. You carry out turn-based actions and move your troops across the map while focusing on the many diplomatic and cultural aspects.
As a general goal, the conquest of the world can be noted.
What does multiplayer offer? In multiplayer, the game offers a lot of fun since players and opponents have to think for themselves. This can cause multiplayer rounds to last a very long time.
However, you can also play the game in solo mode against the AI if you don’t have as much time and still don’t have to miss out on the fun.
What kind of game is it?Hearthstone is an online collectible card game set in the Warcraft universe. The game tends to charmingly poke fun at Warcraft lore.

You can play Baldur’s Gate 3 almost entirely the way you want and even have the option to be wickedly evil. One player wants to take it to the extreme and shows how you can extract the most evilness in just one playthrough. However, some are not satisfied with that …
Spoiler Warning: We will discuss the stories and fates of all companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you are not familiar with their personal stories, you will be spoiled here.
What are these things? The user lalo___cura has compiled a list on Reddit of the worst fate for Shadowheart, Lae’zel, and others. Important: you must play as the evil Dark Urge and can complete everything in one run.
The idea is to harm the companions’ souls to the maximum, similar to the ultimate betrayal of Shadowheart – but for all companions. A small warning: some of these fates are really, really horrible:
Lae’zel
Corrupt her with every single larva until she becomes a part-Illithid in the hope of freeing the Githyanki. Then let her watch as the Emperor slurps Orpheus’s brain.
Shadowheart
Help her kill Viconia and free her parents before selling her to the Shar worshippers. Alternatively: kill her parents.
Astarion
Hand him over to the Gur so they can take him to Cazador. There, he will be skinned alive and sacrificed.
Gale
Kill him and use his body as a weapon. Gale is a walking magical bomb. Occasionally revive him so he doesn’t blow up the whole world.
Wyll
Enter into a romance with him and make him believe that you are together forever. Convince him to sell his soul to Mizora to save his father. Then sleep with Mizora and kill his father.
Let Minthara attack the grove without helping – otherwise, Wyll and Karlach will leave you. Then kill Art Cullaugh, but let Halsin live so he is alone in the world and can never defeat the Shadow Curse.
Minthara
Let the Absolutists break their spirit in Act 2.
Jaheira
Destroy the inn and make her think it was an accident. Convince her that you can resist the Dark Desire, take her to the Murder Tribunal, and sacrifice her.
Minsc
Take him with you and let him watch Jaheira die. Then kill his hamster, and finally, him.
To lighten the mood, a bit of bear sex to uplift the spirits:

“This is even infinitely worse”
In the comments on the thread, some users find even more, far worse ideas to torment the companions. However, some of them cannot be completed in the same run. These include:
Let Karlach become a mind flayer, and then stab her in the back (and in the face) at the crucial moment.
You can make Minsc kill Jaheira himself – a woman he has accompanied for decades. If you then kill Minsc, his hamster Boo will appear to mourn. You can also kill that one.
Jaheira also has children who … well, are mortal. You know what to do.
If you lure Minthara into your bed, you can kill her right after sex, after she has opened up to someone for the first time in decades.
Why should I even be evil? A wicked walkthrough through Baldur’s Gate 3 rarely happens because the player is inherently wicked, but more out of curiosity. People want to see what is possible.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is considered a masterpiece, in which Larian has truly thought of everything. Since the voice acting of the voice actors is celebrated by almost everyone, players simply want to know what scenes they might miss if they are “only good”.
Nevertheless, many find it difficult to be truly evil. Understandable, yet it can be worth it:
The Twitch streamer Skumnut mastered a special challenge in God of War. However, he was banned by the streaming platform for a thoughtless remark. Now he is allowed to return because a friend advocated for him.
What was behind the ban? Skumnut is a content creator known mainly for Souls games and Soulslikes. He streamed Elden Ring for 364 hours alone (via TwitchTracker). For his first playthrough in God of War Ragnarök, the streamer wanted to challenge himself particularly in 2022:
He attempted a “Kick Only” run, defeating all enemies solely with kicks. According to his own statements, he is the first player to have successfully completed such a run. He streamed almost 10 hours daily for a week to achieve this.
He apparently wanted to share his success with the friendly streamer Mega. While Mega was on air, Skumnut wrote in his chat: “I will kick you to death.” This was probably intended as a joke, and Mega also reacted laughingly to the message, explaining to his chat that it was likely a reference to Skumnut’s “Kick Only” run.
The 5 biggest Twitch bans that caused a lot of commotion
“I always come back”
What is the current development? On October 24, 2023, Skumnut was surprisingly unbanned after 11 months and 6 days. This was announced via the automated account StreamerBans on X, formerly Twitter.
The streamer responded to the post by sharing a photo of himself with his middle finger raised. He wrote: “I always come back.”

Why was the ban lifted? As Skumnut writes in a comment, the streamer Matthew “MattApocalypse” traveled to TwitchCon in Las Vegas and spoke on-site with staff about the case.
Although Skumnut thanked his friend, he has not yet used his newfound freedom for a comeback stream on Twitch. Instead, he remains active on YouTube, where he has more than 230,000 subscribers.
The unbanning of Skumnut occurs just a few weeks after the alleged permanent ban of the scandal streamer IShowsSpeed was lifted. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy had already suggested in September the possibility of giving permanently banned streamers a second chance. It seems they are adhering to this.
Ruffy has assembled a substantial crew over the course of One Piece. Not all of his crew members have eaten a Devil Fruit, but many do not need to. MeinMMO ranks the Straw Hats based on their combat power and explains why some of Ruffy’s crew members are more battle-hardened than others.
Attention, Spoilers: We assess the powers of the Straw Hat crew based on the current status of the manga. If you have not yet read the events during and after Wano Kuni, you should return at a later time.
Which members were considered? We include all members of Ruffy’s Straw Hat crew who regularly appear on the Flying Lamb or Thousand Sunny. This means we do not consider alliance partners or specific princesses in the ranking.
Additionally, we have counted all members up to chapter 1,096. Thus, there are more people than in the Netflix series, for example.
What criteria were used for the ranking? The places were assigned based on,
what abilities the Straw Hats have
whether there were special events where they showed their true potential
how high the bounty of each pirate is
For each character, we describe what abilities they have in combat and which stronger opponents they have already defeated on their own.
Nami has, apart from Chopper, who is regarded as the pet of the Straw Hat crew, the lowest bounty. As a navigator, she occupies one of the most important positions in the ship’s crew, but she is not a capable fighter.
With her manipulative nature, she has occasionally managed to turn fights in her favor. For instance, she was able to convince King Baum to fight on her side.
Besides the clima-tact that Lysop made for her, she can defend herself with the help of Zeus the cloud. This allows her to shock multiple opponents and defend herself in both close and long-range combat.
Lysop is known as the marksman of the Straw Hat crew. He is a clumsy liar who has managed to save himself in many battles primarily through cheap tricks. Ghost Princess Perona and Sugar were only defeated because Lysop scared them.
However, he is a creative mind when it comes to his ammunition. His repertoire includes various plant and flame attacks, which he can use against different opponents.
We ranked Lysop higher than Nami as he possesses Observation Haki. In Dressrosa, he was able to sense the aura of others, thereby expanding his field of vision, which is beneficial as a sharpshooter. He is also one of the fastest Straw Hats when it comes to running away.
Tony Chopper is mistakenly regarded by the Marine as the pet of the Straw Hat crew. He is one of the members of the Straw Hat crew who has eaten a Devil Fruit. However, his Devil Fruit only allows him to speak with humans and take on a humanoid reindeer form.
As the ship’s doctor, he has an important role within the crew. He primarily uses his medical knowledge for the Rumble Balls, through which he can change his appearance and thus achieve enormous combat abilities.
Tony Chopper will probably be the next member in the Netflix series:

After the time skip, he can even achieve many of the forms without Rumble Balls. His greatest strength is his monster form, where he turns into a gigantic reindeer. Thanks to Caesar Clown, Chopper was able to significantly improve the Rumble Ball so that he can control the form for up to 30 minutes.

Uber Uniques are the best items in Diablo 4, but for the longest time since release, they were considered useless – because hardly anyone could obtain them. Now, in Season 2, the weapons and armor are significantly more accessible. Still, you need to invest a lot of time, as players demonstrate.
These are the items:
Uber Uniques are special versions of unique items. Due to their extreme rarity, players saw them as “a waste of development time.”
However, even here you only have a chance to obtain such an item. An expert speaks of around 2% per kill, which is still significantly more than ever before.
How long do I need to farm? In a thread on Reddit, a user calculates how much time he needs to find his desired Uber Unique. The basis: You can only summon Duriel by using Living Steel.
This material is only obtainable in Hellflights and is also sparse. Players estimate about 5–6 drops per flood. In the calculation, the player shows how many Hellflights he needs to acquire enough steel so that he can summon Duriel often enough statistically for an Uber Unique to drop.
In a comment, however, someone with apparently greater mathematical understanding shows that this calculation is incorrect and corrects it with complex mathematics:
Wizards, Hunters, and Druids therefore need:
173 kills on Duriel for a 50% chance
346 kills for a 75% chance
1,149 kills for a 99% chance
Barbarians and Necromancers would need:
208 kills on Duriel for a 50% chance
415 kills for a 75% chance
1,379 kills for a 99% chance
Wizards, Hunters, and Druids have a smaller pool of specific items, which is why they have it easier. Note: we are not a math site. If someone finds errors in the calculation, feel free to comment.
In the worst case, this equates to around 2,300 Hellflights when you get 6 Living Steel there. The numbers sound high, but apply to a specific Uber Unique. If you just want any, the values range between 34 and 228 kills (equating to up to 38 floods).

Diablo 4 presents new Season 2, coming this fall – Blood & Vampires
“People’s expectations are annoying”
In the same thread and also earlier, players discuss that the low drop rates and the required farming aren’t so bad. On the one hand, it’s good that you don’t get everything thrown at you.
This way, you have something to do, and in Diablo 2, it was almost impossible to find the best runes yourself. On the other hand, you also don’t really need Uber Uniques. While they are for many of the best builds in Diablo 4 the “Best in Slot,” they are by no means build-defining.
The difference from Diablo 2 is that you can’t just exchange them here because trading with Uber Uniques is limited. Nevertheless, these items present a definite luxury problem. To play a good build and have fun, you don’t need them.
The more you can be happy when you do find an Uber Unique. That would be a great moment. Generally, Season 2 seems to be doing a lot right at the moment, players feel:
The Finals is a new FPS that lets you destroy everything to your heart’s content. On Steam, the Open Beta is climbing the charts, but it seems the server is struggling with the influx.
What kind of game is this? The Finals is a new first-person shooter that is set to be released as a free-to-play title on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The special hook is that the environment in The Finals is almost completely destructible, allowing you to demolish entire buildings.
Thanks to special technology, the destruction is calculated server-side and persists for all players in the game. This makes the debris piles tactically relevant. MeinMMO was already present at the Closed Beta in March, while The Finals showed the potential to become one of the best PvP shooters.
On October 26, 2023, the Open Beta launched on PC and console with a new game mode, catapulting The Finals into the top 5 of the most played games on Steam. At the launch of the Open Beta, there was also a new trailer that you can watch here:

Influx is too much for the servers
The Finals is received very well: In the first 24 hours after the launch of the Open Beta, The Finals reached a peak of 143,000 concurrent players. By the weekend, the FPS even reaches almost 230,000 concurrent players.
Currently, The Finals is in 5th place among the most played games on Steam, competing with established genre representatives like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Apex Legends (via Steamcharts, as of October 29, 2023).
The first impressions are also positive. Comments under the trailer praise the gameplay, the sound design, and the developers’ openness to feedback (via YouTube).
Hazardous: I just played [the Open Beta] and I’m thrilled about how smooth the game feels. Big kudos to the sound design team […]
ethansparks8825: You can now destroy the crane! Scopes have also been added. The developers really listen to the community. Can’t wait to play again.
On X, formerly Twitter, there are first impressions and gameplay to discover under the hashtag #REACHTHEFINALS. Here too, it seems that players are having a lot of fun. The only problems appear to be with the servers, as they seem unable to keep up with the influx.
Developer Embark Studios implemented a temporary login queue while they work on expanding their capacities (via twitter.com). There may be wait times and crashes. However, since the Open Beta was always intended as a stress test for the systems, this is likely also valuable feedback.
You can participate in the Open Beta until November 5 and get your own impression. You can register via Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store.
If you are not yet convinced, you can find here a detailed first impression from the Closed Beta, including gameplay from 2 complete matches. However, please note that quite a bit may have changed since March, so some information may not be up to date.

The LoL Worlds are currently taking place, the World Championships in League of Legends, and the teams are competing until October 29 for a place in the quarter-finals. The best EU team, G2 Esports, however, suffered a crushing defeat just before the finish line. Even the last round did not go well: for the first time since 2014, there is no EU team in the final rounds.
Note: This article was originally published while the match against Bilibili was ongoing and was updated around 12:30.
These were the matches: On October 28, the NA team NRG Esports and the EU team G2 Esports played for a spot in the quarter-finals of the Worlds. G2 was considered the clear favorite, especially since the team had just achieved a highly unlikely victory.
The match was contested in the penultimate stage of the Swiss phase. This means: the winner advances to the quarter-finals, the loser must play another round for a chance at the final place.
Although G2 has shown early as the best team in Europe, the players around Mid-Laner Caps could not really find their footing. By minute 20 in the first round, G2 was already significantly behind and ultimately lost with a crushing 0:2.
The subsequent match against BLG also went poorly for G2 Esports, ending 1:2. With two consecutive losses, the last EU team is now out of the Worlds – something fans have not seen in 9 years. Commentators say: there was a lack of the G2 magic.

NRG crushes G2 with aggressive gameplay, Europe finds no answer
This was G2’s problem: Early in the game, NRG continuously takes the lead, securing picks on the bot lane, important dragons, and eventually leading by a few thousand gold. After about 15 minutes, NRG jungler Contractz (featured image) turns everything around.
His strong ganks with Vi bring the team two towers. From here on, G2 simply cannot respond to the aggressive playstyle of the Americans. The European team repeatedly finds itself caught in poor positions.
NRG, meanwhile, capitalizes on the momentum and builds on every small mistake, exploiting it and pushing each lane step by step. The decision is ultimately made right in G2’s base, even while most towers are still standing there.
The US team is already leading with 18 to 3 kills and over 10,000 gold by minute 29. With coordinated assaults, NRG dismantles the cohesion of G2, picking off individual champs one by one and ultimately finishes without another death over the top lane.

G2 appears intimidated, finds no lever for a comeback
This is how it ended: The second round plays out almost identically to the first. After it initially seems that G2 has regained their composure, NRG again uses their super-aggressive playstyle and repeatedly dismantles the Europeans.
After not even 28 minutes and 30 seconds, the game is over, with the final fight on the top lane ultimately breaking G2 and granting NRG the victory. With only one death, the NA team clears all towers up top and finally the nexus.
Afterwards, G2 had to face Bilibili Gaming (BLG), a team from China. After losing the first of three games, the EU team managed to fight back to a 1:1. However, the third game looked similar to how it did against NRG.
The aggressive ganks and coordination of Bilibili ultimately broke the cohesion at G2. Even when they managed to equalize, BLG was able to pick off another one somewhere on the map.
G2 was eventually visibly intimidated. Instead of at least trying to force the opponents to waste important abilities, they often simply stared at them. With a 2:1, G2 Esports was then finally eliminated.
This is the first time since 2014 that there is no European team in the finals of the LoL Worlds. Many fans cannot even remember something like this. Back then, Alliance, FNatic and SK Gaming all went out of the tournament in the group stage.
A similar problem this year was faced by the US favorite Team Liquid. Here, fans quickly placed the blame on one person:
A player wanted to complete Fallout 4 without taking a single hit – after over 2,000 hours, he succeeded.
The 2015 released Fallout 4 is very popular among RPG fans. Some players regularly return to the post-apocalyptic world, even if they completed the game years ago.
Other players enhance the Fallout 4 experience with mods or impose special challenges on themselves to experience a unique thrill on a new playthrough.
One of these players is a Twitch streamer named ‘Vrexia’, who wanted to complete Bethesda’s RPG without taking a single hit – but there were some additional factors that made the challenge even harder.

No-Hit-Run, but even a falling microscope is deadly
What exactly was the challenge? Vrexia wanted to complete Fallout 4 without ever being hit, but that was too easy for him. According to PC Gamer, he therefore used a mod that made even the smallest damage a lethal hit.
He reportedly died in one run because a microscope fell off the table and hit him. Since it’s also a permadeath run, he had to start over from scratch due to the microscope. The same went for bugs that launched him into the air or a scorpion that had spawned in the air and fell on him.
To make things even more challenging, Vrexia aimed to complete the game to 100% – meaning finishing the story and all side quests including the DLCs, collecting all collectibles, and unlocking all settlements.
Additionally, the prohibition of numerous items increased the difficulty, including examples like VATS, armor, legendary items, as well as perks that avoid damage.
How long did it take him to complete the challenge? Overall, Vrexia is said to have taken about 2,000 hours to finish the special run. This cost him, in addition to 2 years and 7 months, a total of 415 attempts before he finally succeeded.
By the way, Vrexia is not the only one attempting special challenges in games. A streamer named Dinossindgeil has played FromSoftware’s titles Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3, Bloodborne, Sekiro and Elden Ring in one go without being hit once.
MeinMMO author Dariusz Müller is dissatisfied with the current selection of PvP titles as a big shooter fan. He has surprisingly found joy again in a 3-year-old tactical shooter and hopes it can entertain him until the next major release.
The shooter market has been offering few exciting new releases for months, and I have been dissatisfied with the current selection of shooters for a while.
My “rock in the surf” was for a long time Rainbow Six Siege. I kept returning to the tactical shooter, but currently, I have completely lost interest in the game. This is partly due to changes that I personally don’t like and partly due to the ongoing major cheating problem.
3-year-old shooter ignites my ambition, suddenly fun
After jumping from shooter to shooter over the course of the year, I returned to Valorant after a longer break. I had played the title from Riot Games for a few hours in 2021, but lost interest again before reaching level 30.
I had no desire to unlock the various agents or invest the time to learn their abilities. What I wanted to play in 2021 were movement shooters. I wanted to jump, slide, and dropshot, not stop shooting for my weapons to hit anything.
But 2023 has sparked my ambition and I have a lot of fun improving in Valorant. I spend several hours a week training my aim and considering how to use my gadgets most effectively.

In Valorant, the well-known principle applies: “Easy to learn, hard to master.” It is really not complicated to understand and use the individual abilities of the agents. But it makes a huge difference how well those abilities are used. Sometimes it’s small differences that have a big impact.
For example, when I place my turret with the agent “Killjoy,” there are probably hundreds of pros and high-Elo players rolling their eyes and shedding a tear because the position is just not optimal. But I can learn from exactly those players.
If I have no time or desire to play myself, it’s YouTube videos and streams that I watch with interest because I benefit from them in terms of gameplay. In short: Valorant is so much fun for me right now because it ignites my ambition and motivates me to want to get better.
Even if I get beaten up by smurfs and am salty for a short time, I can ultimately take something positive from the time played because I can copy their tricks. In general, matches against better players spark my ambition, and I play my best rounds when I am actually at a disadvantage.
I want to be honest with you. There is no such thing as the perfect game. Valorant also has its problems. The sometimes extremely toxic player base is probably one of the biggest, and especially for women, it can get really uncomfortable in this shooter.
Also very critical is the smurf problem. In the lower to middle ranks, there are regularly smurfs in matches – both on the enemy team and among the random teammates on your own team. One can only hope that your own smurf is better.
Both can really be frustrating, which is why I absolutely understand if someone doesn’t feel like playing the shooter. Nevertheless, Valorant is for me right now technicallyone of the best competitive shooters – if not the best.
The servers are incredibly stable, the hitbox works extremely reliably, and the peekers’ advantage1 is by no means as bad as in other shooters. I have been playing the shooter for several months now for several hours a day and have never experienced FPS drops or crashes. Valorant runs damn smoothly and has strong performance – even relatively low-performance PCs get sufficient FPS.
Cheaters are almost non-existent in Valorant because Vanguard, the anti-cheat system, really does an excellent job. I can fully focus on what makes me enjoy a shooter: focused, competitive gameplay with the fundamental idea of getting better.
I have finally found joy in learning and mastering a shooter again, and therefore I hope that Valorant continues to be as much fun for me in the coming months or years as it is now.
Peekers-Advantage bedeutet, dass der Spieler im Vorteil ist, der aus einer Deckung heraus in den Schusswechsel geht, während der Spieler, der einen Winkel hält, im Nachteil ist. ↩︎

Many RPGs today are enriched with many small and large interaction possibilities. MeinMMO editor Sophia is a big animal fan and has compiled her five favorite RPGs for you in which you can ruffle your fluffy companions’ fur.
My dog Loki, visible at the top of the title image, is an absolute cuddle fan. When he doesn’t want to play or eat, he is always ready for petting – as the rest of the MeinMMO editorial team has already noticed. Sometimes, however, he simply does not feel like it.
Therefore, it is always a great joy for me when my current focus game allows me to interact with the depicted animals. Whether it’s having my character ruffle the feathers of an owl bear cub or scrubbing the scales of my Charizard.
For anyone with a similar cuddling need, or for anyone looking for some heartwarming game content between missions, here are my five personal recommendations for RPGs with animal cuddling functions.
Both can be brought to your camp and cuddled in every way. Kratzer warms up to you throughout the story, resulting in him bringing you little gifts over time. The owl bear cub, on the other hand, is very frightened, especially at the beginning.
Both animals greet you with warm words and enjoy the shared cuddle time. Who could blame them?
If you ever lose Kratzer for any reason, your companions even have their own sad voice lines for that. In Act 3, it is indeed possible for him to return to his original owners of the courier service in Rivington. My personal tip for keeping Kratzer bug-free: Don’t have him with you during this interaction and don’t mention him. Or resort to drastic measures.
Final Fantasy XVI (and Final Fantasy XIV)
In the latest installment of the J-RPG series Final Fantasy, the wolf-like Torgal stands by your side. In the prologue, which you can also play in the preview on PS5, young Jill carries him in her arms most of the time. Throughout the story, you meet him again as a fully grown dog, and he becomes a loyal ally.
On one hand, he stands by main character Clive Rosfield in battle, and on the other hand, you can cuddle him to your heart’s content. Torgal is an absolute Good Boy who would do almost anything for Clive and his allies.
Final Fantasy XVI is currently still PS5-exclusive, but has been announced for PC. A concrete release date is still pending, but PC gamers can probably mess up Torgal’s mane next year.

Final Fantasy XVI Launch Trailer
Players of the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will also soon be able to enjoy Torgal: During the Fan Festival in London, a crossover between the two games was announced. Clive’s loyal friend can be unlocked as both a mount and in puppy form as a companion.
In the MMORPG, you can also pet all targetable objects with the emote /pet. However, since this can also include your fellow players, NPCs, or furniture, this is just a passing mention.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom
I have thought long about whether to mention these two games: Tears of the Kingdom is the direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. However, a bit of a rider simulation has been lost in these two Nintendo Switch games.
Link, the hero of the games and your controllable character, needs a mount to get from A to B faster. To do this, you can catch and tame the wild horses that live free in the world. You can register and name between five and six at the stables in Hyrule.
You can equip all your horses with various saddles and bridles, as well as style their mane and tail. If you find the horse god in each game, you can also improve their stats. And of course, you can take care of your horses in every way: They eat apples from your hand, and you can calm them by gently patting their necks while riding.

But: The player feedback on Breath of the Wild included a strong desire to also be able to pet dogs. Some of Hyrule’s stables have border collies that you can bribe with meat. After enough treats, they will show you buried treasures nearby.
Unfortunately, Nintendo also refrained from adding an animation for petting dogs in the sequel Tears of the Kingdom. Very unfortunate, in my opinion.
Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy has two absolutely genius features for me: I can fly with a broom through the fantasy version of the Scottish Highlands, and I can raise cute, creepy, or just strange magical creatures.
Start video
Hogwarts Legacy: Official Launch Trailer
The player character rarely pets with their hands but magically brings forth a brush for each creature. Considering that many of the magical animals have special needs and perhaps shouldn’t even be touched, this is also sensible.
The moon calves and nifflers react particularly sweetly to cuddling. Kneazles purr when you brush them. However, I wonder what exactly we brush on the seemingly naked thestrals. Well, in the end, it doesn’t matter: A thestral also deserves love.
If you keep your eyes open, you will meet cats scattered all over the world. They are of course also happy about intense cuddles.
Pokémon
Whether or not to count Pokémon as animals is an old discussion. Feel free to let us know in the comments what you personally think about it. However, I didn’t want to miss the chance to include them here on the list.
On my Nintendo Switch, I still play Let’s Go Eevee from time to time. The game is a remake of the first Pokémon games. In the partner version, you have a Pikachu by your side, while in Let’s Go Eevee the titular Eevee takes their place. Eevee is not just your first Pokémon, but you can also pet it, feed it berries, and dress it up in cute costumes.
Whenever I have a need for cuddling on the go, I can always rely on my Pokémon Go roster to be available for cuddles. The Charizard in the subway enjoys a good scratch behind the horn just as much as a Flareon enjoys a good belly rub.
There are still so many games in which you can satisfy your need for cuddling. For example, in the recently released Lies of Pi or Diablo 4. For anyone looking for even more pet content, we recommend the X account (formerly Twitter) @CanYouPetTheDog. If you’re not sure whether you can pet a dog (or another animal) in the game, you will usually find the answer here.
And I am now moving from the desk to the couch. My dog is already impatiently wagging his tail. Real-life cuddles are indeed the best.

WoW: Dragonflight faced some issues after a good start. Nevertheless, the expansion has become a fan favorite, especially after Shadowlands and certainly with the release of Patch 10.1.5. MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus agrees and states: WoW hasn’t been this good since at least Legion. Yet, he is currently investing almost no time in the game.
I have been playing WoW for almost 17 years, since a few weeks before the release of Burning Crusade. And I have always been a raider, for a long time even in progression, at one point even among the top 500 in the world.
Now, I only play WoW when my guild needs a substitute. I can’t summon the motivation to start the MMORPG anymore. And that’s despite World of Warcraft being at an all-time high.
Back during the testing phase, I was convinced by Dragonflight and shortly after release, the game completely captivated me. It’s strange then that I really have no desire to play now. Or do I?
The trailer for Dragonflight gave me goosebumps back then, even me:
Everything has improved, there’s always something to do
Dragonflight has improved almost everything about WoW. Professions are (again) meaningful, or at least more meaningful than before. The story, which was completely mishandled with Shadowlands, is now a bit more down-to-earth and at the same time more captivating.
Especially the return of talents has made a big difference. Being able to respec anytime and anywhere, having more than just one choice of three talents every few levels, and needing to engage more with your class brings that RPG feel back to the MMORPG.
The overall gameplay flow is simply better in Dragonflight now. When I think about how raids were in Shadowlands and how often players were forced to watch the boss’s monologues or wait until a mechanic could be executed… horrible.
PvE is more fun in Dragonflight. Both raids so far had more interesting bosses and prettier designs, even the mythic keystone dungeons are more enjoyable than before. Especially with the idea of rotating the pool with old dungeons each season.
In my opinion, the biggest strength of Dragonflight is the Evoker. Since Legion, there hasn’t been a new class, and Evokers have made me play a caster for the first time in 12 years.
The idea of having a “mid-range” class fascinated me so much that I fell in love immediately. Now, with the new enhancement specialization of the Evoker, which essentially just provides buffs, I feel very comfortable.
Almost no class has ever felt so right to me. So why is it so hard for me to hit the “play” button?
Evokers are exactly my class; I tested them in Beta for hours back then:

Raids feel like work
My biggest problem is the struggle against the bosses. It’s less about the progression itself; I’m used to that. It’s more that it often feels like you are banging your head against a wall.
Raids have become increasingly harder since World of Warcraft launched. Partly because addons have made the game easier overall. To avoid everything being trivial, tougher bosses had to be created.
What I have observed in recent years is that skilled players are increasingly congregating at the top of the world. Those who don’t have a place there quit – because they don’t want to raid below their level anymore.
This means that the gap between the best guilds and “everyone else” is widening continuously. Exaggerating: there are only pros or nolifers and the casual rest. And I find myself exactly in between, as I have neither the time nor the inclination to fight my way to the top. WoW should not become my second job, I experienced that during Shadowlands already.
Other games are more rewarding
Mounts, transmog, and battle pets have never interested me. I look for something I like, farm it specifically, and then wear it. But I don’t want to just collect. I miss the feeling of having achieved something.
In short: other games reward me better for the time I spend raiding. Leveling and gearing a character is still fun in WoW; it feels like progress. But as soon as the upgrades are only in the 0.X%-range, it becomes tedious.
I will play the new raid again, but let’s see how long. The final boss of Dragonflight definitely looks cool:
Start video
WoW: Fyrakk attacks the Emerald Dream and brings the Firelands with
The only thing I could still try is PvP. But at the moment, I don’t want to let my guild down and would rather help there as long as I can still motivate myself to do so.
It’s hard to say whether my lack of motivation really stems from the mentioned reasons. The best explanation is probably: after 17 years without a break, I might need some distance. Because WoW is still one of my favorite games, and I hope to find more motivation soon. Maybe with the next expansion:
MeinMMO Editor Leya Jankowski has now played over 200 hours Baldur’s Gate 3 and feels like she’s still finishing the tutorial.
Actually, I should have played Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty long ago. Actually. My plan was simple:
With the early release of Baldur’s Gate 3, I had exactly one month to complete it and then focus on the other big game releases. One month should definitely be enough.
But Baldur’s Gate 3 has firmly held me in its claws since its release in August. For more than 12 weeks, I have been playing nothing but the massive RPG from Larian Studios. The worst part is that after over 200 hours, I am still far from finished!
Most people around me have completed the third and final act in about 80 hours. I am currently in the third act and estimate that I will need another 20 hours to finish Baldur’s Gate 3.
As Dark Urge, I have been walking a bloody path for 200 hours and can’t wait to see my ending.
I am slow, look at everything, yet miss half of it
How can it be that it takes me so long for a playthrough?
First, I must admit that I am generally a slow player and usually exceed the average playtime. However, it has never been as extreme as with Baldur’s Gate 3.
But Baldur’s Gate 3 tempts me to explore every corner, talk to as many NPCs as possible, and read all notes and books. As a druid, I must, of course, also talk to every animal that crosses my path. They also have the weirdest dialogues.
I am rewarded every time I go on a discovery journey. For almost every small quest, there is a cutscene, and sometimes the best stories are hidden in seemingly insignificant tasks. For those in the know, I only say: carrier pigeons and Gale’s cat.
Actually, it’s totally crazy to be so obsessed with wanting to see everything. Because every decision you make in the game leads to certain things never being seen.
I also repeatedly manage to completely overlook things, as I have to keep realizing in conversations with others.
In the first act, I only left death and devastation. This way, a large part of the game will remain forever hidden.
I desperately wanted to kill an evil witch for which my level was still too low. This led me to sleep a lot to replenish my life – I even unlocked a trophy as a sleeping queen – and thus the story continued partially without me.
I destroyed a druid grove, there was a genocide of tieflings, I slaughtered a few goblins in the hope of achieving something here and saving an important druid. However, he was already dead.
Well… this led to three potential companions dying, and one did not want to join me anymore because of my atrocities. I will not see their stories.
But none of this has discouraged me from continuing to explore every corner of the game. I want to make my current story as complete as possible.

Middle finger to the AAA industry: Baldur’s Gate 3 was no coincidence
There won’t be anything like Baldur’s Gate 3 for a long time
I could go on and on about why I am generally very slow in RPGs.
I haven’t even talked about things like staring at the screen forever when I think about which move I want to make in turn-based combat. Just for all my plans to backfire and I have to adapt again. I have spent several days in the same battle without making progress in the story.
And you know what?
These 200 hours still feel like a damn tutorial!
Because right now, I am torn between finally catching up on the games that have been on my list for a long time right after Baldur’s Gate 3. At the same time, I am considering starting the next run in the RPG because I want to see all the other possibilities.
Baldur’s Gate offers so many exploration opportunities. Want a romance with a Mindflayer? No problem!
Moreover, I have every single moment in mind of how I could do it better this time. As if this XXL run is only the preparation for the next one. I am currently playing my run as a Dark Urge, which is the perfect experience for me to experience this game. Experiencing this quest line is quite something!
The last RPG that I was so obsessed with that I wanted to play it over and over again was Skyrim. That was 12 years ago.
I fear that the big releases of recent times are likely to disappoint me. So I will probably focus on a smaller indie game again, like Cocoon, a puzzle-adventure where worlds exist in a sphere that you carry on your back.
I know it will take a long time before a game triggers this level of escapism and immersion for me again.
How are the other tavs in Baldur’s Gate 3? Are you still playing and how many hours do you have under your belt now?
League of Legends is generally considered a toxic game. Nevertheless, there are some “Good Guys,” especially among the professionals. One of them used to be someone hardly anyone liked. His fame seemingly went to his head, but he has worked on himself.
This is how Caps behaved back then: The Spanish colleagues from 3Djuegos have unearthed some of Caps’s early chat logs and looked more closely at the professional’s development. There, the mid-laner does not come off particularly well.
In conversations with other players, he then became quite unfriendly. During a game, statements like: “You will never achieve anything in League, I will make sure of that, I will destroy your team. […] You have no idea how much influence I have over the rosters.” were made. (via X)
Moreover, the professional is said not to have shown insight for a long time. As another teammate shows in a log, Caps once said: “Come visit me in Germany next year. I don’t have to behave […] I was already chosen.” (via X)
Since he was signed by his first professional team, he is said to have behaved terribly. Team colleagues mentioned that he hardly focused on ranked games anymore, mostly only trolled, sabotaged or experimented.
Presumably significantly less controversial is the legendary Faker:

Toxic professional works on himself: “I am now a role model”
Shortly after Caps joined Fnatic, he posted an official apology together with his team (via TwitLonger). It states:
I would like to apologize for my recent behavior in the solo queue, both to the community and to the people I flamed. […] What I did not know before joining Fnatic is that being a professional means more than just being good in the game. I also need to be a good person and a role model for others.
Caps pledged to improve and wanted to work on his behavior together with his team. That seems to have worked.
Since then, there have been no notable incidents in which Caps would have stood out negatively. Even the world-renowned Faker recently trained with him. Caps’s biggest problem may have been that he became too successful too quickly, as 3Djuegos writes.
Whoever comes into professional sports at 17, receives an enormous salary, and moves to Germany without being prepared for it, has to first come to terms with it. Such a thing does not exist in traditional sports. Additionally, League of Legends generally has the reputation of not having the nicest community:
After the hype surrounding Our Flag Means Death and One Piece, MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus indulged in nostalgia. Many years ago he watched his absolute favorite pirate series: Black Sails. Unfortunately, the series is hardly available anywhere unless you want to buy it directly.
Those interested in the history there will find many well-known names like Edward Teach (“Blackbeard”), Jack Rackham, “Long” John Silver, Anne Bonny, and more.
The pilot episode premiered in January 2014, and the last episode aired in April 2017. The series consists of four seasons with a total of 38 episodes.
What makes Black Sails so good: Unlike many other pirate series and movies, Black Sails does not try to win over viewers with excessive romance or comic relief. Instead, it tells the story of the most important pirates over many episodes.
It’s also less about simple plundering or treasure hunting, but about the pirates’ struggle for their freedom and their own city, Nassau. The series is dramatically structured and culminates in the infamous pirate war between the pirate republic and the British Empire.
Just because of Black Sails I want to visit Nassau, the current capital of the Bahamas. The series shows the architecture of the city from earlier times and how pirates might have lived back then. For years I’ve wanted to walk down the same street as Blackbeard and Hornigold did back then.
Although the series had a rough start, it now holds a rating of 8.2 out of 10 on IMDb. Personally, for me, Black Sails is the best pirate series ever, only surpassed in the field by Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean.
What makes Black Sails better than any other series I know is simply the grandiose intro. I know no more epic one. You can find the trailer for Season 1 here:

Black Sails – Trailer for the first season of the pirate series
Black Sails is a mix of Game of Thrones and Pirates of the Caribbean
Who is Black Sails worth it for? Anyone who is interested in pirates should have seen Black Sails or at least be familiar with it. Even if you just think pirates are “cool”, the series will surely captivate you.
Action fans will also get their money’s worth. In addition to naval battles, there are also fights on land and plenty of sword fighting. The series is not as bloody and brutal as Game of Thrones, but it does not hide the fact that things were quite harsh back then.
However, if you are hoping for fantasy and voodoo in the style of Pirates of the Caribbean or adventures like those in Treasure Island, you will be disappointed with Black Sails. The series is thoroughly a drama.
Where can I watch Black Sails? Black Sails is produced by STARZ, a US company known for rarely working with large streaming services. Accordingly, you have only a few options to watch the series “for free”:
Otherwise, you can only buy or rent Black Sails. I simply bought the Blu-ray box with all seasons including bonus material, so I have the series at home and do not have to rely on a good internet connection. Also, the quality is often better. Unfortunately, you have to choose either the English or the German box.
For pirate fans, we have another hot tip on MeinMMO:
“No Russian” is considered the worst mission in the history of Call of Duty, but a developer underestimated how bad it really is.
What is “No Russian”? This is probably the worst and most controversial mission in the history of Call of Duty, occurring during the gameplay of the 2009-released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Within the mission, you take on the role of CIA agent “Joseph Allen.” Your objective is to gain the trust of the terrorist Vladimir Makarov during an undercover operation.
The mission itself takes place at a fictional airport in Moscow, where Makarov’s group carries out an attack. Heavily armed, you step out of an elevator together with the villain and open fire on civilians.
Even though you don’t have to fire a single shot during your march through the airport, the mission slaps you in the face with the cruelty of the act committed and forces you to slowly walk and witness the death of countless innocent people.
The release of the upcoming CoD MW3 (2023) is currently just around the corner. Once again, the villain Makarov will appear. Here you can see a trailer:

Developer was shocked at how intensely some testers reacted
What does the developer say? In an interview with IGN, developer Mohammad Alavi, who worked at Infinity Ward during the development of CoD MW2 (2009) and was involved in the design of No Russian, talked about the reactions to the mission concept (via YouTube).
He was shocked, for example, when a veteran who was supposed to test the game put down his controller and refused to play the level:
He comes into the level and the doors open, and he immediately realizes that they are civilians. And he just puts the controller down and leaves the room. He says: ‘I’m not playing this level.’ And I was shocked. I thought: ‘Wow. Okay. No. That had a strong reaction on some people.’
Mohammad Alavi via IGN
Alavi also mentions that the level was critically considered within Infinity Ward. Some employees thought the mission was a bad idea, but Alavi thought they were overreacting: “I thought they would overreact, but they were 100% right. I remember a person saying: ‘This is offensive. I don’t want to play this level.'”
When MW2 was released in 2009 and players started the campaign, they had an option to skip No Russian if they did not want to play the controversial level.
Infinity Ward co-founder Jason West insisted on this option, Alavi reveals, so players could experience the rest of the game even if they disagreed with the level.
In the interview, Alavi also explained that he never intended to make something controversial. His thought behind the mission was to create something memorable – and the team at Infinity Ward succeeded in that.
The cartoon series South Park is known for addressing current issues repeatedly, often in an exaggerated and satirical manner. Now, the series has incorporated the game Baldur’s Gate 3 – unfortunately with a factual error that the developers do not want to let slide.
This is what happens in the episode:
In the latest episode, new characters from an alternate universe appear. The four protagonists (Kenny, Kyle, Stan, and Cartman) are replaced by “diverse” women.
The series aims to comment on Disney’s “token” diversity and criticizes the practice of including People of Color in films merely for the sake of representation.
The diverse version of Cartman enjoys playing Baldur’s Gate 3, but apparently, there are issues with the save file.

And here’s the mistake: In one scene, Cartman wants to start the game and is prompted to begin a new save file. The old one is no longer available, although more than 50 hours had already been invested there.
Cartman is annoyed: “There’s no cross-dimensional save feature?!”, to which Stan explains that there isn’t even cross-save between PS5 and PC. Expecting to save across universes is too much to ask.
The release on PS5 has already fixed numerous bugs:

South Park and Video Games – A Love That Rekindles
The creators of South Park have included numerous references to video games and gaming in their series in the past. The most famous scene is likely the one where the four boys play World of Warcraft in Cartman’s basement.
Back then, it was about taking down a nasty ganker. To do this, they killed wild boars in the starting area for days to level up, and they even received a sword that actually made it into the game from Blizzard.
The joke about the wild boars has endured over the years. In WoW Classic, someone even copied the idea and killed only wild boars for 10 days. However, there are errors in the series as well. At some point, enemies below your level simply give no experience points anymore.
Other series have also attempted jokes or references from gaming. The famous Leeroy Jenkins, for example, received his own scene in Family Guy but was not very successful:

What makes From the New World worth watching? The series manages, despite the many genres, to never seem overloaded. The whole story is divided into two large sections that take place at different times. What starts as a relatively harmonious story with a lot of time for character depth transforms into a brutal and cruel trip that chillingly shows how quickly a society can spiral out of control – and that death does not spare even main characters.
