In League of Legends, professionals from South Korea are considered the best players in the world, but they still have to complete mandatory military service. One of the best junglers is now ending his career because of this and is saying goodbye to his fans in a final stream.
Which player is it? In September 2025, Han Wang-ho, better known as Peanut, announced that he was quitting. Since 2014, he has been a professional player in LoL and is regarded as one of the best junglers of all time. Throughout his career, he has played for top teams like SK Telecom T1 and Gen.G.
But Peanut has to serve in the military in South Korea, where it is mandatory. Every man is registered at 18, assessed at 19, and must start military service by the age of 28. This lasts from 18 to 21 months (source: 90daykorean.com).
Faker, Chovy, and Zeus were able to avoid this because they won at the 2023 Asian Games. South Koreans can skip military service if they achieve great things for the country.
Peanut recently said goodbye to his fans in a stream just before starting his service, and fans are mourning the jungle legend.
A return is unlikely
How did fans react to his departure? In a final stream, Peanut said goodbye to his fans just before heading to the military. The end of the stream was shared by Sheep Esports on x.com. While Yellow Submarine by the Beatles plays, he says Goodbye, Goodnight.
Among the comments on the clip, the majority seem to mourn his departure. He is sent off with appropriate memes, and users like @FizzKaleefa (via x.com) write: Peanut is the best jungler of all time.
Users like @Makoto_97 (via x.com) criticize military service as well: I will never understand why people are forced to give up their careers just to play soldier.
Can he continue his career after the service? Theoretically, he can just continue after military service. The problem is that he will have not played any professional matches for almost 2 years and will be nearly 30, which is relatively old for LoL professional standards. Therefore, a return to the highest level would be quite difficult.
He seems to know this as well, since shortly before the Worlds 2025, he said in a YouTube clip from lolesports that he wanted to win a Worlds title before his retirement, which he unfortunately did not achieve. Accordingly, Peanut likely did not expect a return.
However, there are still opportunities for him besides just being a pro. He could work as a coach or consultant or devote himself to streaming. As a well-known player, he has the opportunity to start again in other ways. What happens with him will probably not be seen until about 2 years from now.
Despite his military service, Peanut has made a name for himself in LoL over more than 11 years, one that will likely not be forgotten for a long time. But even at an older age, one can still compete, as a grandma shows: 61-year-old grandma dominates LoL tournament, hitting ultimates that every casual would envy
