On May 6, 2026, the online action RPG Farever launched in Early Access on Steam. You can expect an exciting survival MMO mix from the creators of Wartales, Evoland, and Northgard.
What kind of game is it? The developers of Shiro Games describe Farever as an online multiplayer action RPG set in a fantasy open world. Alone or with friends, you will dive into the wilderness and dungeons of Siagarta. The focus is clearly on the co-op experience, where you explore, fight, gather, and build together.
We find the comparison by outlawpickle on Reddit interesting, as he has already played the game in previous testing phases. In response to the question of which game Farever could be compared to, he writes:
Think about how “Fellowship” reduced WoW to the sweat-inducing “Mythic+” experience. “Farever” takes GW2 and distills it down to the essentials, but in terms of exploring the open world, bosses, and quests, it conveys a very similar feeling (albeit on a much smaller scale than GW2). […] When it comes to abilities and combat, think more of GW2 than WoW.
As with many other MMO-lites, you will encounter only a handful of other players (rather than hundreds or thousands of characters) in Farever’s world. Due to some survival elements, the co-op experience, and the important crafting, there are also occasional comparisons to Valheim.
One thing that did not sit well with beta players was the performance during testing. Apparently, many testers had issues with frame rate drops. Whether this has improved in the Early Access version, we cannot say at this time.
The Early Access of Farever: Not forever, if everything goes according to plan
What you need to know about Early Access: Farever launched in Early Access on May 6, 2026, and currently costs 17.99 euros on Steam (down from 19.99 euros). The testing phase is expected to last about a year. Available content includes leveling up to level 20, 4 classes: warrior, mage, rogue, and cleric, various professions, mounts, gliders, companions, 10 dungeons, 2 regions, and more.
According to the roadmap, more regions, classes, and dungeons are set to be integrated into the game in the coming weeks and months. Additionally, systems for guilds, an auction house, friend lists, PvP, special challenge modes for dungeons, and a faction reputation system are planned.
If you are looking for more survival struggle and less MMO lite, you might have your eye on Subnautica 2, which is set to hit Early Access on Steam in a few days. We have a fresh update on that here: The most requested survival game on Steam is forgoing an important feature, which could confuse players
