Affinity is an important value in Monster Hunter Wilds as it enhances your attacks. Read directly on MeinMMO about how affinity works and how you can increase the value.
What is Affinity? Affinity indicates the chance that you can land a critical hit. An affinity of 20% means that you have a 20% chance for your attack to be critical. Critical hits are worthwhile as they deal 1.25 times the damage of normal attacks. The value is capped at 100%; it cannot go higher.
Furthermore, affinity is only assigned for pure physical damage and does not affect the elements your weapon has. So, if you deal only 3 physical damage and 30 fire damage, only the 3 physical points of damage are enhanced.
What does negative affinity mean? Weapons with high base damage usually have negative affinity. This shows how high the chance is that you will deal -25% damage.
Displaying Affinity: You can display the value in the equipment info. There is an extra point “Affinity” here, and behind it is a percentage value that can be positive, negative, or neutral.
How to Increase Your Affinity
How do I increase affinity? Currently, there are 2 ways through which you can improve the affinity value of your weapon:
- Through skills that you can equip through weapons, armor pieces, talismans, or decorations
- Through the properties of your weapon itself
Skills like “Critical Eye” or “Weakness Exploit” increase the affinity value for your equipped weapon. Skills such as “Critical Aim” or “Critical Eye” also increase the affinity value of your weapon.
Note that some skills are conditional, which is why they are not always included in the displayed value in the equipment menu. Since you cannot exceed 100% affinity, be mindful of this when building your setup.
