In Minecraft you can finally sit down and relax – but this is the fastest travel method there has ever been.
Even 15 years after the official release, Minecraft is still far from “finished”. There are always smaller patches with new features or objects that can be used for new constructions or antics. A small new feature are the “Cushions”. With them, characters in the game can finally sit down. But as often happens, the community immediately finds a creative use for it – and thus the fastest transportation method that exists in the game.
What are cushions? Cushions are a new item that you can craft from wool tiles (also new) in the next patch of Minecraft. The cushions are not only decorative, but can also be used: your character sits down. This is nice when you just want to relax a bit or do some RP by the campfire. It simply adds a new option to the game to create more atmosphere and furnish houses even better.
However, cushions can also be used for a pretty strong exploit – the fastest travel method in Minecraft so far.
Faster than sprinting, faster than taking the train – the cushion in Minecraft
How do you travel with cushions? If you place multiple cushions with some distance from each other, you can “use” the cushions from the other cushion and click on them. This allows the character to teleport a small distance. Basically, that’s only a few blocks, so it shouldn’t be a big problem – or so you would think. But multiple cushions make a curious difference here, as you can jump from cushion to cushion with almost no time loss, as this video shows:
How quickly does the travel work? Basically, you can use the cushions from a distance of 3 blocks. This means that each click teleports the character 3 blocks to the next cushion. However, there is no cooldown between clicks, so the speed of travel completely depends on your clicking speed. With a macro or auto-clicker, it is possible to click hundreds of cushions in succession within a second and cover huge distances.
By the way, this works not only horizontally but also vertically or even diagonally. If you don’t want to deal with ladders and are looking for a faster way, you can also just build an elevator out of cushions to get from the lowest point of the Minecraft world to the sky in just a few seconds.
The cushions will likely be revised before the official release of the patch, so such an exploitation will not be possible anymore. But it is always amusing to see how creative the Minecraft community is and what methods they find to exploit the actual purpose of items.
Recently, Minecraft fixed a bug that is so old that it could play itself by now.
