Three years after Persona 5, a game with anime graphics, the developers released an extended story with the Royal version. In it, a new character appears who inspires a man from the USA to pursue his dream job.
What kind of character is this? In the Royal version, Dr. Takuto Maruki is one of the key figures. The character was specifically rewritten for this extended version of the game.
He arrives after the traumatic events surrounding the PE teacher Kamoshida at Shujin Academy, where many of the protagonists are located. He helps the students process what has happened as a psychologist.
He is extremely friendly, empathetic, and also a bit clumsy. That’s exactly why he is popular among the students. However, he seems to be so popular even among real gamers that one of them has found his dream job because of him.
Gamer finally finds his dream job
Who inspired the character? Dylan Lackaye played Persona 5 Royal and found his dream job through it. He writes on X that he was extremely anxious and angry at the world in 2020. When he then played Persona 5 Royal, the therapy scenes with Dr. Takuto Maruki inspired him. He supposedly immediately warmed to the idea of becoming a therapist himself.
By the next morning, he had supposedly run down the stairs and told his mother that he wanted to sign up for a master’s degree to become a therapist. However, at that time, he had not yet achieved a diploma or a degree in psychology.
More than five years later, I today received my license to practice clinical therapy. So much has changed in my life since that day, and I can honestly say that I am now a completely happy and fulfilled person.
