Make professional money with letters and postcards? Generation Z is doing just that. Behind it is a new trend that has especially grown through social media: Snail Mail.
What is Generation Z doing exactly? The principle is quite simple: People subscribe to a newsletter that only exists in analog form. This means: You pay the person a few euros a month, and in return, you receive a traditional letter or card by mail once or twice a month. In English, this is referred to as “Snail Mail”; in German, it would translate to “Schneckenpost,” which does not equate.
Snail Mail primarily refers to the speed: While emails land in your inbox in seconds, letters – depending on the location – take days or even weeks. So, things arrive at a “snail’s pace”.
This kind of mail, which still takes days, is becoming increasingly popular among young people. So popular that some even earn money professionally from it. But there is also hard work behind it, as some report.
Hours of night-time work to send letters to subscribers
The English-language magazine CNBC talked to young people who offer such a paid, analog newsletter.
Kiki Klassen, one of the interviewees, explains that she receives 8 US dollars per person per month and generates a total revenue of 4,385 US dollars per month. And it would be worth it for her. And she is not the only one who earns a lot of money from it: Various founders of these “Snail Mail” clubs say they make monthly profits of several thousand dollars.
However, it also involves a lot of work: Planning, creating, and sending the content can take weeks. Klassen claims to invest sometimes six hours a night for an entire week to provide her monthly subscribers with letters.
Most of these clubs are gaining popularity mainly on social media – on TikTok, there are over 150,000 posts with the hashtag “Snail Mail”.
Clearly, many people want to earn more money easily. Generation Z has now found a way to make money without actively doing anything for it. By selling their data profitably: Gen Z has found a new way to earn money easily: They install a spy app on their phone and sell their data
