Season 14 is currently ongoing in Diablo 4, but Blizzard has already given a first look at the upcoming season. This will remove the annoying gambling with mythic items, which also means: Your junk will then likely remain junk.
In the notes for the small hotfix that removed the annoying limit for crafted mythics, there is a statement about the upcoming Season 15. According to this, it should be possible in the next season to upgrade items directly.
Currently, in Season 14, you throw an item into the Horadric Cube when “upgrading to mythic” and receive a random mythic for the same slot. With Season 15, you will then be guaranteed to receive a mythic version of the item used.
However, the currently active system can also be used to create a powerful mythic from completely useless items – albeit with a fair amount of luck. This is unlikely to work in the next season.
Additionally, the devs reserve the right to reactivate the “only 1 crafted mythic” rule for the new system. Whether that will happen is still uncertain.
Blizzard is reworking the new mythics, finally reached a good point
The new mythic system of Season 14 has received a lot of criticism, mainly due to the random factor and the initial existing limit. The probably biggest problem was that: players who do not play many hours daily had virtually no chance at the best items.
Even players who could accumulate dozens of hours in a few days had a few mythics with some luck, but rarely the truly suitable ones for their build. Since release, Blizzard has adjusted the system and completely reversed some changes.
