After Elden Ring, countless fans are waiting for the next game from FromSoftware. Now, the Japanese cult developer has dropped a new trailer during the Nintendo Direct. The community had envisioned it quite differently.
What does the new trailer show? In just under a minute, FromSoftware presents a new glimpse into “The Duskbloods”. This is a PvPvE game where 8 players compete against each other on a map or fight enemies together – similar to Elden Ring: Nightreign.
The trailer shows a dark church in the woods, a blood-red moon. A dude in pajamas, with a war hammer and an oversized helmet (which covers his eyes). And a few figures and creatures sighing short phrases into the camera while orchestral-epic music plays from the speakers.
Finally, the trailer ends with a note about a closed network test this summer. Nintendo officials also point out that interested players will need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription for the online features. You can watch the trailer here:
“Guys, IT’S SUMMER”
How is the community reacting to the trailer? Under the video on YouTube and in several Reddit discussions, players are currently discussing what was shown. What quickly becomes clear: The anticipation for a new action RPG from FromSoftware is high, and the new trailer for “The Duskbloods” does not meet these expectations for several reasons.
Several interested parties find it particularly disappointing that the new trailer shows almost nothing. Many fans had hoped for gameplay or even a release date. After all, the announcement came in April 2025. SacredDarksoul complains, for example, on Reddit: “I can’t believe they still haven’t shown anything about it.”
Funnypenguin97 adds on Reddit: “Not even a date for the network test. What the … only summer? Guys, IT’S SUMMER. So is it coming tomorrow? In September?”
Eruskakkell and some others are particularly bothered by the chosen platform: “FromSoft’s games are among my favorites, but honestly, screw this Switch-2-exclusivity bullshit” – via Reddit.
Then there are those who find the new type of games from FromSoftware silly. jimschocolateorange explains on Reddit: “Cool … when is the next real FromSoft game that isn’t a live service title and has nothing to do with PvPvE?”
What else do I need to know? The truth, however, is that FromSoftware was able to achieve considerable success with Elden Ring Nightreign. About a year ago, they celebrated the milestone of 5 million units sold. So it’s not surprising that they are developing another game with this formula.
But that’s not all that is currently in development at FromSoftware. The studio is said to be working on several games simultaneously. Studio head Hidetaka Miyazaki wants to give younger teams and talents at FromSoftware the chance to lead their own smaller projects. What the mastermind behind titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne is currently working on as a lead director is still a secret. What is clear is that a game is to be adapted into a film: Release, trailer and cast – All information about the upcoming film adaptation of Elden Ring.
