With Lord of Hatred, Diablo 4 has received a new endgame feature: War Plans. However, this has faced criticism from players who primarily play in groups. Therefore, Blizzard is making improvements in Season 14.
What was the point of criticism? War Plans are the new core feature for the endgame in Diablo 4. With this, you can basically create your own “playlist” of content and earn extra rewards. However, there are some issues in group play:
- Group members retain their own War Plan objectives, so you cannot work together as a team on them.
- The XP for completed War Plans do not scale properly.
- Only the member whose War Plan is completed receives the rewards at the end.
With Season 14, this should change, making War Plans worthwhile for groups as well. You will soon be able to test the adjustments yourself on the PTR.
What is Blizzard changing about the War Plans? In the patch notes for the PTR for Season 14 (news.blizzard.com), it is stated that you will be able to seamlessly complete War Plans with your friends in a group. To do this, you need to synchronize your War Plan game boards with the group. You will then receive a shared game board that generates a new War Plan for the entire team.
The game board of the group member who starts the vote will be reset, and a new one will be created that will be shared with all members. Synchronization works independently of the respective Qual and War Plan level.
Aside from that, the XP for all War Plan activities from Qual 8 as well as the rewards for the Hell Hordes will be increased.
What other changes are there in Season 14? With Season 14, Blizzard is also bringing updates for the Horadrim Cube into the game. You can modify uniques using the recipes “Focused Rerolling” and “Chaotic Rerolling”. Additionally, the effects of non-locked uniques and unique talisman spells can be rerolled anew.
“Mythical” is no longer a rarity level in Season 14, but rather a mutable item quality. Basically, any unique can now become mythical with the help of modifiers.
On top of that, there will be a “Solo Self-Found” mode (SSF). In this mode, you cannot play in a group or trade, nor use cooperative content.
You can find the detailed patch notes for the PTR on the Blizzard website.
When can I test Season 14? You can try the changes on the PTR (test server) for Season 14 from June 2 to June 9, 2026 (7 PM CEST). There, you will have access to the SSF mode, the seasonal features, the revised mythics, and new rewards for the tower.
MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus was initially not enthusiastic about the War Plans at all. At some point, however, it clicked for him: He is currently playing Diablo 4 more than he has since the release, although he initially found the new endgame totally boring.
