5 Reasons Why Aion 2 is Surprisingly Casual-Friendly

At first glance, Aion 2 relies on similar progression systems as Lost Ark. Because even in Aion 2 it’s about repeatedly engaging with certain content, gradually upgrading gear pieces, and also making progress in other systems.

However, in detail there are various differences between the two MMORPGs from Korea that make Aion 2 a clearly more casual-friendly alternative.

Reason Number 1: Focus on Weekly Activities

While there are dailies and even daily dungeons in Aion 2, that can be misleading. In practice, the most important repeatable endgame activities in Aion 2 revolve around a weekly cycle. In other words: Only if you leave certain content alone for a week do you waste the associated entry tickets, energy points, or IDs (and thus lose efficiency in character progression).

You don’t have to log in daily to achieve the main progression goals, but can approach them within a week exactly when it suits you best (for example, on weekends).

Some of the weekly activities in Aion include:

  • Nightmare Dungeons (maximum 14 tickets per week, 2 tickets recharge every 2 days)
  • Daily Dungeons (maximum 14 tickets per week, 2 tickets recharge every 2 days)
  • Ascension Trials (3 tickets per week)
  • Raids (weekly access)
  • Expeditions and Transcendence Dungeons (access costs energy, which recharges over time)
  • Abyss: Accessible to each character only for a certain number of hours per week

All of this content can also be tackled most efficiently if you take a few days off from Aion 2 each week. The fewer days you have available per week, the harder you will have to push on the remaining days if you want to do everything.

The best genre in the world is also the focus on the YouTube channel of MeinMMO. Recently, a video went live where we look at the upcoming West release of Aion 2:

Reason Number 2: 24/7 Grinders Hit a Wall

The ticket and energy system of Aion 2 ensures that players with significantly more time cannot sprint infinitely far ahead of casuals. Ambitious hardcore players have an advantage in certain areas, but it’s not so large that casual players are at a total disadvantage.

Many time-intensive grinds, such as maximizing various pets, even trend towards horizontal progression. In other words: You gain additional options for certain situations through more maximized pets (which provide special bonuses), but you’re not automatically stronger than a player who has leveled only a few pets to the maximum.

Reason Number 3: Twinking is Not Necessary for Minmaxing

Aion 2 features account-bound progression systems from which all characters of your account or server benefit. For example, the pets mentioned earlier, but also mounts and skins. Additionally, you can farm upgrade materials and Kinah through twinks to advance the progression of your main character.

However, Aion 2 does not turn into a twink simulator like Lost Ark, where minmaxing actually required actively playing multiple characters. On the one hand, you need to invest significantly more time in your main character from Aion 2 than was sometimes the case in Lost Ark; on the other hand, account caps and character-bound Kinah ensure that twinking becomes inefficient beyond a certain point.

In short: One or two twinks can positively impact the character progression of the main character, yes, but the advantage remains limited.

Reason Number 4: Plenty of Content for Solo Players

Aion 2 offers many dungeon and raid activities, but also challenges available that you can tackle alone, at your own pace – for example, the Ascension Trials and Nightmare Dungeons, as well as the Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds in the world. And even in the Abyss, you can complete tasks for important Abyss points quite well solo.

You are therefore not constantly dependent on group searches and can also make progress in Aion 2 even when you only have a short time frame available.

Reason Number 5: Equipment Upgrades Without Material Waste

Aion 2 revolves around finding great pieces of equipment, upgrading them, and eventually replacing them with even better items. The good news: A large portion of the materials you invested in upgrading your previous piece will not go to waste. You can immediately use them to upgrade your new beautiful piece.

This is not only a great thing when swapping items, but also a good safeguard in case you accidentally invested materials into the upgrade of a rather poor piece. This applies not only to equipment but also to the important Arcana cards that can also be upgraded.

Catch-Up if You Fall Behind

There are three more factors that make Aion 2 quite casual-friendly. First, the previously mentioned relatively short leveling phase. Even players with little time should reach the maximum level within one or two weeks. Second, Aion 2 offers a helpful macro system that helps you execute the combos of your class with just a few keys.

Third, the versions from Korea and Taiwan of Aion 2 already clarify that NCSoft will introduce special events and catch-up systems over time that will help you quickly catch up to the current endgame after a break. This is important because content in Aion 2 often requires a minimum item level.

Overall, it helps that Aion 2 places a strong emphasis on PvE content and normalizes the equipment of participants to a comparable level in all instanced PvP modes. Only when it comes to optional PvP in the Abyss and Rift events or for the best leaderboard placements should hardcore players (and those investing real money) gain a noticeable advantage.
