We present all 8 classes that you can play for the global release of Aion 2 and tell you which archetypes are particularly recommended for beginners.
What classes are there in Aion 2? At the global launch of Aion 2 in October, you can choose from the following 8 classes:
- Gladiator
- Templar
- Assassin
- Ranger
- Bard
- Cleric
- Wizard
- Summoner
Below, we introduce the 8 archetypes with their respective strengths and weaknesses in detail and reveal whether they are a good choice for beginners.
Note: Due to numerous adjustments in recent months, the class balance in the Korean version of Aion 2 is currently at a very good level. For example, there is no outlier that deals the highest damage in every situation. Likewise, there is no class that is unplayable everywhere. So, it’s best to try out the class you feel most drawn to.
Classes from Aion 2: the Gladiator
- Official description: A front-line fighter wielding a massive sword, raging through the battlefield like an angry storm.
- Role: Offensive melee fighter / Off-tank
- Suitability for beginners: High

The Gladiator is the most resilient front-line fighter with an offensive focus and deals decent damage against multiple opponents with his two-handed sword. Additionally, he can support as a tank when needed and self-heal through lifesteal.
His disadvantage compared to various ranged fighters: He only deals damage when his enemies are within reach of his sword. Additionally, there are other classes that deal more damage to single targets and in prolonged fights. Nevertheless, due to his robust, brutal playstyle, he is well-suited for beginners.
Classes from Aion 2: the Templar
- Official description: An oath-bound guardian who withstands like a fortress wall and controls the battlefield with an unbreakable shield.
- Role: Main tank / Group control
- Suitability for beginners: Very high

The Templar, with his heavy armor and shield, is the prototype of a tank. He can take heavy hits and control opponents with his skills. The Templar forgives many mistakes, making him very suitable for beginners. However, you have to live with his relatively low damage, which makes solo leveling a bit sluggish. Every group will gladly take you in for that.
Classes from Aion 2: the Assassin
- Official description: A cold-blooded assassin who emerges from the shadows and strikes silently.
- Role: Offensive melee fighter
- Suitability for beginners: Low

The Assassin is the glass cannon of Aion 2. He deals massive burst damage in a short time from stealth and is thus perfectly suited to take out dangerous high-priority targets. Due to his immense mobility, he can stay close to his prey.
However, the same applies to him: if the opponents are outside his blade range, he deals no damage – and his blades are even shorter than those of the Gladiator. Additionally, his area damage is relatively low, and he takes a lot of hits when struck. To prevent this, you need to learn to fight and showcase quick reflexes. Therefore, the Assassin is not suitable for beginners.
Classes from Aion 2: the Ranger
- Official description: A silent hunter who determines the course of battle with a single, decisive shot.
- Role: Physical offensive ranged fighter
- Suitability for beginners: Medium

The Ranger relies on attacks from great distances and traps. With his control options and high mobility, he can kite opponents effectively. It becomes problematic if his opponent succeeds in engaging him in close combat. There, he has clear weaknesses. His playstyle is highly dependent on positioning.
However, if you can shoot freely, you currently achieve nearly the highest damage numbers of all classes – at least if you already have decent gear. Hardly any other DPS specialization is said to be so gear-dependent.
Classes from Aion 2: the Bard
- Official description: An honorable guardian who strengthens allies with divine blessings and unwavering protection.
- Role: Hybrid support who can heal and deal damage
- Suitability for beginners: Medium

If you want to deal maximum damage and heal as effectively as possible, the Bard is the wrong choice. He can do both, but only mediocrally. However, he provides the team with a selection of strong auras and buffs. Additionally, he offers a degree of flexibility and can assist where support is needed.
In solo play, this flexibility can be quite useful. Due to the higher damage, he progresses faster than the Cleric, while still having healing abilities in case of emergency. However, in endgame content, the advantage can turn into a disadvantage. For the most challenging content, he lacks the healing potential and resurrection abilities of the Cleric, while also not reaching the DPS values of the offensive experts.
Classes from Aion 2: the Cleric
- Official description: A holy guardian who preserves life with the gentle touch of light.
- Role: Healer
- Suitability for beginners: Very high

The Cleric has the best group healing and protection spells in Aion 2, giving him a clearly defined, essential role in group situations. It should be easy to find a spot for dungeons and raids. Additionally, thanks to his immense self-healing capabilities, solo questing is very relaxing. Perhaps a bit too relaxing. The damage potential of the Cleric is, however, as low as no other class.
As good as the Cleric fulfills his role in group play, he currently suffers in the Korean version because loot for some content is distributed based on damage dealt.
Those who do not deal enough damage receive no rewards at the end. Meanwhile, the developers have made a change where healing generated is also taken into account, but players still report that as a Cleric, you cannot reach the necessary numbers to qualify for loot. How this will look in the global version is currently unclear.
Classes from Aion 2: the Wizard
- Official description: A harbinger of corruption who consumes everything with a storm of arcane power.
- Role: Magical offensive ranged fighter
- Suitability for beginners: Medium

The spellcasting Wizards combine tremendous burst and area damage spells with strong control effects in Aion 2. Those who master this mix will likely find the best class to reach the maximum level or to clear areas of enemies as quickly as possible.
However, you must always keep an eye on your mana, and if you get hit, you’ll quickly find yourself defeated on the ground. The glass cannon label is also on this class, although your survivability has already been improved through updates.
Classes from Aion 2: the Summoner
- Official description: A herald of spirits controlling the battlefield with elemental power.
- Role: Magical support with pet
- Suitability for beginners: Medium

If you prefer to fight alongside a pet in Aion 2, you must choose the Summoner. He uses floating orbs and summoned spirits in combat and currently seems to have the strongest damage potential after recent class adjustments. The direct damage comes from the companions, while the Summoner focuses on status and damage-over-time effects.
The Summoner is noticeably sturdier than the Wizard but has to deal with controlling his pets and keeping track of the various effects. This can overwhelm beginners in chaotic situations. However, those who have internalized the playstyle will likely have a very good time with this class in Aion 2.
In the Korean version of Aion 2, there is already a ninth class, the Brawler. This one relies on gauntlets and deals high melee damage. However, it will probably still take a while until we can get our hands on this archetype. We will introduce you to this class in detail when its global premiere approaches.
