On June 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM, the new season in Pokémon GO will start. It is called “Always On” and will run until September 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM. This season will host not only the GO Fest 2026, but also the 10th anniversary of the game, which was released in its first regions on July 6, 2016.
Accordingly, there is a comeback in Pokémon GO that reminds exactly of this early time. Both with positive and negative memories.
An image evokes memories
What is this comeback about? When you start the game currently, you will see a new loading screen. Here is a trainer on a bridge being watched by a Gyarados. Next to the Gyarados, you will also see a Magikarp and in the air, the silhouette of Mewtwo.
A similar loading screen existed at the beginning in 2016 of Pokémon GO. The style was a bit different, and Magikarp and Mewtwo were not present, but the parallels of both images are clear to recognize.

What memories does this evoke? Aside from the emotions that many trainers experienced in the early days of the game, the image also brings back memories of the problems at the start of Pokémon GO, which mainly concerned the servers.
In the beginning, the game was overwhelmed by trainers so much that the servers of the game were simply too weak to ensure an enjoyable gaming experience for all trainers. It was not uncommon for trainers to see an alternative screen instead of the Gyarados that told them they could not currently access the game.

While the game is still online after 10 years and regularly brings new content, server problems nowadays are fortunately rather the exception than a universally expected problem.
