Even before series like WandaVision, the Marvel universe was already present on television. One of the best series introduced a powerful Marvel character who is quite powerful, but also quite dangerous.
Which series is it? Although the MCU has been regularly supplied with series since WandaVision (2021), there were already some that do not directly belong to a universe. For example, there was Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The X-Men universe, which has received many films from the 20th Century Fox studios, also had a series: Legion.
Legion dealt with the titular character over 3 seasons, but it was anything but a classic superhero story. David Haller, played by Dan Stevens, has struggled with schizophrenia since he was young and spends his life in clinics. One day, he meets the patient Syd, who reveals to him that not everything he sees and hears is made up.
Between 2017 and 2019, the series received 3 seasons and, with a score of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, is one of the best Marvel series. It also stands out strongly from other superhero series because it plays with reality and visually distinguishes itself greatly.
This also fits perfectly with the character Legion, who is not only incredibly powerful but also incredibly dangerous.
Quite powerful, but also quite unstable
Who is Legion anyway? In Marvel comics, David Haller was practically born with powerful abilities. He is the son of Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men and a powerful telepath, and the Israeli Gabrielle Haller. He first appeared in 1985 in the comic New Mutants No. 25.
Gabrielle kept her child hidden from Charles, and Legion grew up with her and his stepfather Daniel Shomron. However, when his mother one day became a victim of an assassin, his powers awakened, and his mind broke after he “melted” the assassin’s mind.
Here you see a depiction of Legion in the Marvel comics:

As an Omega-level mutant, he is one of the most powerful figures in the Marvel universe and easily surpasses his father. He possesses the following abilities:
- Telepathy
- Pyrokinesis (he can create fire)
- Telekinesis
- He can alter reality
But these are not just his
abilities, as the different personalities that arise from his condition can develop powers that he can then utilize. Thus, he can alter reality and suddenly have entirely new powers, which are also at the level of an Omega mutant.
Theoretically, he could even defeat villains like Thanos, who can only influence reality with the Infinity Gauntlet. But there is a major problem: Legion is uncontrollable, and his various personalities (which also physically manifest) cannot simply be controlled. This makes him a significant threat, as he can unknowingly cause enormous harm.
This also attracts villains who often fight against the X-Men. These include the Sentinels and other mutant haters. An important villain in Legion’s story is the Shadow King. He is an ancient parasitic entity that feeds on dark emotions and can possess other beings. He was the mutant Amahl Farouk, whom Charles Xavier defeated. For someone like the Shadow King, Legion would naturally be a powerful host.
Will Legion ever appear in the MCU? It cannot be entirely ruled out, but Legion does not yet fit into the current MCU as a character. The X-Men will finally be properly introduced in the next Avengers film, but mutants must first be established before introducing a character like Legion, who is complicated.
However, the series Legion still shows after almost 9 years how to depict and visually represent such abilities and conflicts. Those who find the MCU series too uniform should definitely check out Legion. Another Marvel group failed with their series: One of the most important characters in the Marvel universe is almost completely left out in the films, even though he had his own series
