MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz reveals what you can expect in the Abyss of Aion 2. Spoiler: Even PvE fans should check out the PvP zone, but it could hurt quite a bit at times.
Similar to World of Warcraft, a fierce faction battle rages in Aion 2. However, you can truly experience it only in the Abyss. This is an instanced battlefield zone made up of numerous floating rock islands, filled with countless PvE monsters. You primarily travel between the areas by flying from the base. The portals positioned all over the sky help you stay in the air.
You will be sent to the Abyss for the first time at the end of the main story. You need to be level 45 and have an item level of 1,000. If you meet these requirements, switch to the main menu and click on the seasonal tile for the Abyss. By clicking “Enter,” you will teleport to your local base.
However, you don’t have to dive into the pvp action just yet. After a brief conversation, you can leave again (run to the portal at the exit of your base and teleport back to Atreia from there) and shortly after finish the story campaign (as far as it is available so far).
As a PvE fan in the Abyss – is it worth it?
As a PvP fan, further visits to the Abyss are, of course, a matter of honor. There, the big faction battles for three artifact points take place three times a week, namely every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday at 9:00 PM.
Additionally, a number of world bosses gather in the zone. There are feathers scattered everywhere for the local monolith, which you use to fill the Azphel-Daevanion board for new value bonuses. And the scroll quests from the local vendor promise a bunch of useful rewards.
With the earned Abyss points, which you also get for Arena and battlefield participation, you can shop in the Abyss shop. Initially, you will find consumables, stigma shards, Azphel crystals, skins, wings, and more. Later, equipment pieces are supposed to be added, which will help you efficiently increase your item level.
And this is exactly where the Abyss is also interesting for PvE fans, who actually have no desire for PvP. Starting from item level 1,600, the Abyss is considered the best option to obtain upgrades for your equipment. Especially the unique accessories (rings, earrings, necklaces) are exciting. But even a weapon upgrade can be worthwhile. You can find out more about the item level grind here:
Of course, the aforementioned stigma shards are also exciting, with which you can further level up your essential stigma skills. The weekly scroll quests reward you with Kinah, keys, and upgrade materials. And investing in the PvP Daevanion board pays off. All passive value bonuses that do not have a (PvP) behind them count for you even in PvE. In short: Visiting the Abyss is worth it!
A PvE Assassin in the midst of battle – how was it?
Last night (on October 5, 2026), I, as an old PvP grump, conducted a test for you and dove into the fray with 20 scroll quests in my backpack. And I mean literally. What I initially did not have on my radar was: The big battle for the three artifacts was about to begin.
The nearly 20 minutes until the start were unfortunately quite frustrating. My repeated attempts to explore the zone a bit and maybe pick up some feathers or take down some monsters for quests ended the same: I landed right in the midst of an army of red Asmodians, who promptly kicked me out of the sky unkindly. Is it always like this? I already hate the Abyss!

Meanwhile, more and more Elyos gathered at the base, launching raid after raid. So, for the time being, I abandoned my plan and joined the growing throng of white wings. At some point, the battle began, and just the sight of the two armies of hundreds of fighters clashing in the air should put a smile on the face of any MMO fan.
This is exactly the kind of massively multiplayer experience that makes the genre so special and that many modern online RPGs no longer offer.
Soon, I realized that as an assassin with my short blades, I was not getting anywhere in the mass melee. I therefore moved to the edges of the zone to return to my original plan: quests and feathers! This worked really well. Because a few other Elyos had the same idea.
Together, we took down the local monsters and beat up scattered Asmodians until the attack order on the artifact near me came. Whoever had devised the strategy for the battle did it right! While the Asmodians mainly focused on the center, we managed to capture the two outer control points. 2:1 for Team White!
Below, you can see a video from the YouTube channel listo4eq mmo showcasing an Abyss battle in all its glory:
The cheer in the chat was huge. After all, the Asmodians had previously built a deadly wall in front of our base, which many individual Elyos had fallen victim to. Take that, you black-feathered fiends!
As a reward, we were allowed to use the two portals to travel to the corresponding artifact corridors. These are small rooms full of PvE monsters, where you can efficiently farm Abyss points and Kinah for two minutes each.
However, the party in the Abyss was not yet over. The local world bosses appeared everywhere, and there was a new fight over them. Simultaneously, countless players, including myself, tried to complete the remaining quests.
This went so well that half an hour later I had 20 completed quests in my journal. I also gathered various feathers with which I was able to give some upgrades to the Abyss monolith. And my Abyss points account is now nicely filled. The hatred from the beginning has vanished. Hey, I love the Abyss! The hour was truly worth it, and in the end, I didn’t have as many frustrating PvP encounters as I had feared.
Our current video on the MeinMMO YouTube channel is also about Aion 2:
So feel free to try it out! Or have you already made the Abyss unsafe? What were your experiences? Feel free to share it with me in the comments! Aion 2 is also launching a very strong Free2Play launch. Over the weekend, the numbers could rise further.
