The spoilers for Chapter 1133 of the manga One Piece are out, and it could finally be that “the one marked by flames” appears. He plays arguably the most important role in the great race for the One Piece, the legendary treasure.

Who could it be? The spoilers for the upcoming chapter reveal that Nico Robin and Sauro finally reunite. The two were friends in Nico Robin’s childhood but were separated by the Buster Call on their home, Ohara.
Sauro was caught in an ice attack from Aokiji but managed to escape thanks to the fire that broke out around him. However, he sustained burns that could indicate he was “marked by flames”.
What is so special about that? The “one marked by flames” is said to possess the last Road Poneglyph. No one knows who he is or where he is located. Whoever gathers all the Road Poneglyphs knows the location of the One Piece. That’s why this person is arguably the most wanted among pirates.

What supports this? Sauro has burns on his skin, like the person marked by flames. Additionally, he had access to all knowledge about the world thanks to the great library of Ohara. He even managed to save some books from the Buster Call to Elban.
So it is quite possible that he was more interested in the One Piece and the Road Poneglyphs, as they are related to Joy Boy and the lost century.
Furthermore, Nico Robin was shown when the “one marked by flames” was first hinted at. Perhaps Oda wanted to tease that he is connected to the Straw Hat pirate. If it turns out to be him, it would be a great advantage for the Straw Hat crew in the race for the One Piece.
What argues against it? In Chapter 1081, Blackbeard and his crew discuss the person. They note the following myths about the character:
- He supposedly owns a pitch-black ship
- Any ship approaching him is pulled into gigantic whirlpools
- He is also said to possess a Devil Fruit power
Everything we know about Sauro argues against it. He was previously a vice admiral in the Navy and was washed ashore on Ohara after his exit. Additionally, Aokiji states that he did not see a stone block in Ohara at the time that could have been a Road Poneglyph.
It could still be that another person is meant by this. For the grand finale, not only the Road Poneglyphs but also the Ancient Weapons are likely to play a role.
