Alex would like to support his Pokémon more
In Palworld, the Tamer or Trainer is right in the action. While in Pokémon games, the Trainer just commands his loyal creatures, in Palworld, you get hands-on and slash and shoot against the nasty enemies yourself.
In Palworld, everything feels more like a collaboration, as if you form a unit with your loyal companions and fight and hunt with them. You support each other instead of just commanding them. This is further enhanced by synergies and partner abilities.
Your own positioning, as well as that of the Pal, and the interplay, for example, through seamless transitions between riding and combat phases or even mounted combat, make the battles much more dynamic, so you can eagerly dive into the fight with a good drive. Nintendo could learn a lot from this about the synergies that could arise between Trainer and Pokémon and how to give more weight to your character even in battle.
Benedikt wishes for more freedom in difficulty
Adjustable difficulty
Palworld has a feature that I extensively use in almost every survival game: an adjustable difficulty. This means I can make the game either super easy or into a brutally difficult survival game, where I can die from every misstep and risk losing everything.
I would wish for such a feature for Pokémon because the Pokémon games are always way too easy for me: battles underwhelm me, and if you level up diligently enough, many gym bosses are easier than battles in the wild. In the end, battles just become pure grind, but they usually have little to do with strategy. Many players are now relying on their own challenges to make the game harder for themselves. If Pokémon simply offered me the option to make the game tougher, it would definitely improve the series.
No forced tutorial
Palworld lets me dive into the open game world right from the start: there is a tutorial in the form of quests, but I can just ignore it and play freely. This is rarely the case with Pokémon. The worst example is Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Here, I have to go through a scripted tutorial that lasts for several hours. Free exploration or choice of tasks? Not a chance. The game forces me to complete the tutorial. No matter how good the rest of the game is, that really kills all my enjoyment and ambition to continue playing.
Please Pokémon, make your tutorials optional, especially since I have played the games countless times and already know how to heal myself and how the elements work. That would make the game much more pleasant from my perspective than having to be told for the 20th time how to catch Pokémon.
Meanwhile, MeinMMO editor Dariusz Müller is having a blast with Palworld. To get to know the game as quickly as possible and play through it, he made it as easy as he could – and his experience with it surprised him: I play Palworld like a 4-year-old, it’s surprisingly fun and saves me the 1.0 release
