Entertainment is an art that many people are willing to pay for, and depending on talent or notoriety, even more. This also applies to Dungeons & Dragons.
The bards in your group generally possess the talent to give impressive musical concerts, to impress with artistic skills, or to recite thrilling tales of heroes.
Make it an official event, charge entry, or at least pass around a bag for tips. Depending on how successful you are, your new fans will surely be willing to invest in the next star of the Sword Coast.
Even if it’s initially just thrown coins, your bard could become the biggest talk of the village, city, or the entire region, working their way up from street performer to a big name. Then your pay will look much more impressive than it did at the beginning of your career.
