In Dungeons & Dragons, gambling your money away or becoming incredibly rich through a stroke of luck. As gambling, just like in real life, should not be a reliable method to acquire money or gold, we definitely do not recommend it. The possibility of losing all your possessions is simply too high.
However, it is different if you ensure that a potential wager also multiplies back to you: Become the one the bets are placed on!
Typically, your adventurer groups will have various talents that would be a shame not to take advantage of.
A strong barbarian or fighter could become the champion of a more or less official fighting ring. A bard or another charismatic actor possesses the best poker face in card games, and one or the other might even be able to outdrink the most loyal regular at the bar.
Use your skills to teach overzealous, gambling NPCs a lesson. With a nice bet and the right bonus on your rolls, you can prove that you are among the best in your field! Just watch out not to make your opponents too angry after your fair victory with the gold in your pocket.
