Sell Loot Instead of Hoarding
A simple method that many players quickly forget when trading due to their urge for new and better equipment. Often, the first reflex in a shop or market is to immediately find the best items:
What weapons do you have? Do you have strong armor? Special potions? Anything magical or even cursed?
Rarely is the question asked: How much do I get for this longsword I took from the last rebellious soldier?
The rules of Dungeons & Dragons emphasize that you can sell your found or retired equipment in exchange for coins. According to the rules, you get back half of the cost as value in exchange. And it doesn’t have to be just equipment or weapons.
Even special valuables like gemstones, jewelry, or art objects can be sold at full value according to the Player’s Handbook.
