What is the ending? Rin and her adoptive father Daikichi, whose harmonious life was followed throughout the manga, become a couple. After a time jump of 10 years, the now-adult Rin confesses that she loves her adoptive father and wants to marry him.
Daikichi agrees after she assures him that she wants to have children with him. The two are – thank God! – not biologically related, but you can still guess what fans find odd about it.
Why was the ending unpopular? Up to this finale, the manga was a heartwarming story about fatherhood and selflessness. That it turned into a romance was perceived as creepy by many readers. It is morally questionable and destroys the wholesome father-daughter dynamic established throughout the previous manga. Fortunately, the anime completely omitted this part.
Are there any statements from the author? Unfortunately, there are no official statements from the manga artist. All statements are unfortunately only rumors. Therefore, we do not know whether the author Unita Yumi regrets the ending or still defends it against fan opinion.
