What is Shinsekai Yori about? In the distant future, some people have gained special abilities – basically magic. To prevent misuse, strict rules are applied that educate and train people from a young age. Shinsekai Yori follows a group of these children who gradually uncover the truth behind their reality and learn what happens to children who deviate from the rules – or what the strange, intelligent rat-like beings that apparently serve humans in loyal devotion are all about.

A huge puzzle that only comes together piece by piece. With each episode, you get small bits of information, and every time you think you finally understand what is actually happening, an even bigger revelation comes. It is a dystopian masterpiece with a claustrophobic atmosphere, where children are indoctrinated from birth and trained for the “brave new world” – with sacrifices that only manifest over decades.
