What is Angel Beats! about? Who would have thought that the afterlife is a school? Here land souls who did not want to die yet – and they fight a battle against an angel of God. This “Angel” constantly tries to turn the rebellious souls into good students. However, they resist with weaponry and cunning plans. Because whoever gives in to Angel and integrates into school life disappears forever. A fate that the group of “Afterlife Frontline,” as they call themselves, definitely does not want to succumb to.

Why do people remember Angel Beats! for a long time? Angel Beats has a pretty big plot twist about two-thirds of the way through the series where you realize the truth of the world. Without wanting to spoil too much, this change puts all previous episodes into a new context and makes the finale of the series more emotional and profound. Especially the protagonist’s task in the last episodes is sometimes hard to bear and yet leaves a bittersweet feeling.
All the emotions come rushing back to me as soon as I hear the first piano notes of the absolutely fantastic opening.
