Small mistakes can have big consequences, even in World of Warcraft. Players warn about their own mishaps.
In a game as vast as World of Warcraft, it is very easy to make small or large mistakes. Sometimes it is just a single click that can cost hundreds of thousands of gold coins, or even a single decision not to do something that one regrets years later.
In the WoW subreddit, players regularly gather to discuss their biggest shortcomings and confess to the terrible mistakes they have made. Not all of them are entirely serious – but mostly very entertaining.
Over 7,000 Tickets – So Much Time Lost
Starting off is kod8ultimate, who shares a screenshot of his inventory. It shows that he bought more than 7,000 “Card of Omens” at the auction house, which now fill his entire inventory. The cards are basically tickets that can be redeemed when used. They provide a clever life wisdom like “You will repair your equipment in the near future” and a rarity. Depending on the rarity, the card can then be sold to a vendor for a few silver or some gold coins.
Generally, buying these cards is a losing proposition. The chances of a high profit are extremely low. Additionally, it takes a really long time to use all over 7,000 cards in sequence, and one needs even more inventory space to accommodate them all.

Age: Warlords of Draenor
“That I didn’t realize how people used the mission tables in Warlords of Draenor to farm millions of gold.” – skit 7548
During the expansion “Warlords of Draenor”, there were mission tables in the garrison. These were basically small side quests that you could send followers on – it made you feel like a commander dispatching troops. The catch was that there was a series of “gold missions” that could reward several thousand gold coins. Those playing multiple characters simultaneously could earn several tens of thousands of gold per day almost completely passively – you just had to send the followers out and collect the gold a few hours later.
Those who did this over weeks and months could easily accumulate multiple millions of gold coins and are still benefiting from it today. The inflation in WoW was massive back then, and its effects are still felt today. It was the most efficient, easiest method to earn a lot of gold in a relatively short time.
Performance Over Gold – A Brief Pleasure

Back during the time of Dragonflight, the trinket from Fyrakk was in high demand. So in demand that many made high offers to acquire the trinket themselves – after all, it can be traded with the group once won. Yet sometimes one simply doesn’t think rationally and doesn’t see that one would probably benefit from 2 million gold far longer than from a small performance boost for the rest of the season. A mistake that most only make once.
The Thing with the Missing Zero
“I got a mythic BoE item at the beginning of the season that was worth 900,000 gold. That was more gold than I even had. I put it up in the AH at 3 AM while I was very tired, and it sold almost immediately. When I opened the letter the next morning, expecting to be rich, I found only 90,000 gold. This is probably a mistake that many have made at least once. You buy something too cheap or too expensive – or you list it at the wrong price in the auction house. At least: you certainly made someone else very happy.
