A small misstep on Twitter sparked large discussions. World of Warcraft made fun of its own players – and that leads to stress.
It is actually everyday life for there to be a bit of irony and sarcasm on the social media channels of World of Warcraft. But this time, it seems they pushed it a bit too far and provoked a dispute. The WoW PvP community feels betrayed – and at the same time sees their long-standing concerns confirmed.
With a tweet, WoW angered the PvP fans and then quickly deleted it again.
What was that tweet? In a short clip about a feature from the upcoming patch 10.1 Embers of Neltharion, it was about the upgrading system of items. For PvE fans, this system is drastically simplified. There is now only one type of upgrade, and the currency for that can be found in all gameplay areas.
The video “WoW’s new equipment system in 30 seconds” explained that “the new gear system in 10.1 allows you to upgrade most gear.” As a small aside, they showed a character with crossed eyes and the name “PvP Paul” along with the addition “Not you, PvP, get out of here.” It was meant to be a humorous remark that the change does not affect the PvP equipment, which still gets upgraded with honor and conquest points.
However, this labeling as “annoying PvP Paul” did not sit well with some and caused a small outcry on Twitter.
The Twitter user Takhsick then quickly renamed herself to “PvP Paultakhi” and asked clearly upset:
Definitely not Blizzard, who simply publish a “Screw PvP players” tweet and then delete it like cowards because they know exactly what it triggers. Don’t be shy now, my little ones. Come out and say it loud and clear so we can hear it once and for all.
She alludes to the fact that PvP fans have felt neglected by Blizzard for years.
What is the problem of the PvP community? From the perspective of many PvP players, not enough is being done for the PvP area in WoW. Some have been dissatisfied with the balance for years, new battlegrounds are extremely rare, and apart from “Mixed Solo”, there have been very few major revisions in recent years.
In summary, it can be said: The PvP fans in World of Warcraft have felt neglected for years.
The fact that Blizzard portrays these players as “derpy PvP Paul”, almost laughingly pointing a finger at them and saying “Look at what the PvE players are getting”, has caused the cup to overflow for some.
However, many also believed that it was just a harmless, little joke – and that one shouldn’t get so upset about everything.
Asmongold finds it great: At least one can enjoy it greatly – the biggest WoW streamer, Asmongold. He finds the whole incident and also the mockery of the PvP players “damn funny” and says:
People got upset about it. I think that’s damn funny. This stuff is just funny. I’m being honest with you.
What do you think about it? A little joke that a PvP fan should be able to take? Or just rude towards their own players?
Elsewhere, Asmongold has a rather negative attitude towards Blizzard. Regarding the current incidents at the company, he says: “It is really disappointing what is happening right now!”
