Logging into World of Warcraft takes forever for some people. However, this is not a bug, but actually a feature.
The pre-patch of World of Warcraft: The War Within is here. With it come many new features and improvements. However, some players who want to log in can only grind their teeth in frustration. The login to the game can sometimes take ages.
The reason for this is not a bug or issues with the realms. Instead, it is the new mega-feature, warbands, which simply takes more time to process all the data.
Why does logging in take so long? Previously, Blizzard had already warned in advance on the official WoW website. When you log into the pre-patch of The War Within for the first time, your entire account is being transitioned. All data from all characters is consolidated into the warband so that your account can then benefit from all the advantages.
This process is quite resource-intensive. Blizzard has therefore warned that the conversion process may take up to 20 minutes and that there may be queues during the login.
The reason for this is that World of Warcraft needs to pull and process the data from all your characters. The more characters you have, the longer it takes – and if they are spread across many different realms, it takes even more time.
So if logging in takes longer today, don’t get upset and keep a cool head. This is likely the conversion process that needs to be done only once so that you can enjoy all the benefits afterwards.
Is everyone affected? No. Some seem to be able to log in after just a few seconds, while others have to wait longer. Apparently, this is related to how many characters are grouped on one account and how high the general login rush is. Early in the morning, logging in was relatively quick, but the later it gets and the more WoW accounts are trying to log in, the longer the process seems to take.
