The leveling phase of WoW: Forever is long. With our tricks, you'll reach level 60 faster and avoid some pitfalls.
The best XP source in WoW: Forever
What gives the most experience? The biggest experience point jump in WoW: Forever comes from dungeons if you have all the associated quests available at the start. This way, you can celebrate one or two level-ups repeatedly. With over 30 instances, that adds up.
However, since the quests are somewhat scattered across various regions of Azeroth and occasionally require prerequisite quests, it’s not that easy to always run into a dungeon with all available tasks. The quests that are part of a quest chain cannot unfortunately be simply shared.
Therefore, we highly recommend the addon DungeonJournal, which tells you exactly which quests there are for each instance and where to find them. You can find all the important information about the mod and further addon recommendations here:
Camping and Resting in WoW: Forever
We mentioned this at the beginning: You gain significantly more experience points from killing monsters when you are rested. The rested bonus builds up while you are logged out with your character. The most efficient way to build up rest is when you log out in a capital city or an inn.
You can also optimize your gained experience or the resting bonus in other ways:
- Cozy sleeping bag: If you rest in the sleeping bag for at least one minute, you receive a 1 percent bonus on the earned experience – the effect can stack three times. Logging out in the sleeping bag is similarly efficient as in capitals and inns.
- You receive the item through a quest chain – for Horde players, the quest chain starts with “… and this note that you found” in the Barrens, Alliance players find the equivalent in Westfall.
- Camp tent: When a player sets up the camp tent in a camp, all players sitting around the campfire receive a resting bonus of 5 % of a level (equivalent to a section of your experience bar) – it can be renewed every hour, leatherworking is required for crafting and setup.
- Well rested: This is a talent from the legacy system that increases the maximum resting bonus by 20 % and allows you to build up the resting bonus 20 % faster.
- Buff food: Almost all foods from cooks grant you a bonus on the experience points gained from killing monsters in WoW: Forever of 5 %.
How can I set up a camp? As soon as you learn cooking from the appropriate teacher, you can set up a Simple Campfire. You need to have Flint and Tinder as well as Simple Wood in your inventory. Both items can be purchased from NPC vendors (cooks, enchanting apprentices, specialty goods, general goods).
Once the fire pit is set up, any character can join in and place their camping supplies. Blacksmiths might contribute a whetstone, alchemists set up a mana well, and leatherworkers the aforementioned camp tent. Every profession can contribute something to the camp and all expansions for the camp grant useful buffs that help characters level up.
So what should I pay attention to while leveling? We recommend the following goals and behaviors:
- Always log out with your main character only in capitals, inns, or in the sleeping bag.
- Get yourself a Cozy Sleeping Bag when you are questing in the Barrens or in Westfall.
- Always pack enough Buff Food for leveling to maintain the experience point bonus.
- Learn cooking and bring your chosen professions up to level 20 in a timely manner. Then pack Flint, Tinder, Simple Wood, and the most interesting camp item of your profession to set up a camp every hour or benefit from another player’s camp.
- If you want to level Twinks efficiently, bring them to a capital city or an inn as early as possible. This way, they can accumulate resting bonus while you play your main character.
Note: By default, you can build up a resting bonus for 150 % of your current level, which corresponds to 30 sections of the experience bar. This requires being logged out for about 10 days. With the legacy talent “Well Rested,” the maximum increases by up to 20 percent, but you still only need about 10 days.
More tips and tricks for leveling in WoW: Forever
You can already find some tips and tricks for leveling and questing in our beginner guide for WoW: Forever. Here again are the most important tips for beginners regarding leveling:
- If you want to level, quest, and farm without being disturbed, create a character for the PvE or roleplay rules. In the PvP rules, the law of the stronger applies, and you can be attacked at any time by players of the opposing faction.
- If you want to level and quest together with friends, make sure to choose the same rules and faction.
- If a quest is marked for groups, you should follow this recommendation. Often, you will deal with elite enemies in the open world that can take and deal a lot of damage.
- When passing a settlement or capital, repair your equipment. With a broken weapon, you deal no damage. Destroyed equipment no longer protects you.
- Before every trip, make sure you have everything important with you. With Forever, many classes need less stuff than in Classic, but there are still important supplies like ammunition for hunters, poisons for rogues, or water for mana classes. Also the buff food mentioned earlier and the stuff for the campfire.
- You unlock your first mount only at level 40. Until then, you mainly travel on foot through Azeroth. Druids and shamans can run faster with their travel forms. Tauren enjoy the speed boost from nature running.
- Bind your hearthstone to locations you often need to travel to (such as capitals like Orgrimmar or Stormwind) or at the inns of major quest hubs that will keep you busy for several hours (like the crossroads in the Barrens).
- Activate every flight point you pass while leveling. After hearthstone, mage portal, and warlock summon, the flight taxi in Azeroth is the fastest way to travel. Distant flight routes only work if you have activated the stopovers as well.
- It takes time to gain access to all the skills of your class. Especially at the beginning, you have only a few options to control enemies, heal damage, or escape a threatening situation. Pull responsibly from distance one enemy at a time and always pay attention to your positioning and the respawn of new enemies.
- When pulling spellcasters, use line of sight whenever possible. If an enemy spellcaster can no longer see you, they will run towards you.
- WARNING: Certain types of enemies like humanoids will run away when they are severely injured. This can quickly alert nearby allies to your presence. Therefore, pull the corresponding enemies a little away from the others or keep control or burst skills ready to prevent their escape.
- Every class in WoW can only use a predefined selection of weapons, and for various weapon types, you must first go to the respective teacher and learn this weapon skill for a fee. Especially in the capitals, look out for weapon teachers.
- Plan a training session at weak enemies after learning a new weapon. Your skill level starts at 1. Therefore, you won’t hit high-level targets even if they are right next to your weapon.

We also have more tips for you that will make leveling easier:
- If you leave a group in a dungeon, you will be teleported to the location to which your hearthstone is bound after a few seconds, even if the hearthstone is still on cooldown and actually not available.
- If you should die, you will land in a spectral form at the next spirit healer. Until level 10, you can use this for resurrection without being penalized by a painful debuff. You can use this to save annoying routes. The repair costs from resurrection are still manageable at lower levels.
- From level 10, avoid resurrection by the spirit healer whenever possible! The penalty is just too high: your equipment not only loses durability, but you also get a weakening effect for 10 minutes that noticeably weakens your attributes and damage dealt. Effective leveling and questing becomes hardly possible.
- So what to do? Run back to your corpse and resurrect on the spot! This way, you save yourself both the debuff and the significant loss of durability of your equipment.
Addons can be very helpful for leveling. These are unofficial but allowed modifications for WoW that can show you, for example, quests that you haven’t accepted on the map.
