The in-game currency gold plays an essential role in WoW: Forever. The earnings from quests and loot are low, while the costs are high. MeinMMO reveals how you can still make a fortune.

Adventures in Azeroth are expensive! Just if you want to get a fast mount and all the skills of your class, you need to plan for well over 1,000 gold. On top of that come repair and travel costs, purchases for important consumables, reskill costs, and investments in strong equipment. Therefore, we will show you in this guide how you can secure the financial means for all of this.

The most important to-dos for fast gold at a glance
In summary, you will find below the most important rules and to-dos that you should follow starting November 5, if you want to earn a lot of gold:
- Get bags as early as possible
- For example, from other players, NPC vendors, through quests, or by learning tailoring briefly and making the first bags yourself.
- Learn skinning, cooking, first aid, fishing, and possibly a second gathering profession temporarily
- Later, you can forget the gathering professions and level your intended profession combination.
- Create a bank or trade twink.
- Do not leave any loot behind.
- Avoid unnecessary expenses so that you can quickly buy the normal (level 40) or fast mount (level 60).

The best profession for making gold at the start
If you want to make a lot of gold from the start, especially with a view to the early purchase of mounts at level 40 and 60, learn: skinning and possibly another gathering profession, such as herbalism or mining.
The advantages of the profession:
- You only need a skinning knife and can then skin any beast.
- When questing, you often fight against wildlife, and you can also skin the beasts slain by other players if they are not skinners themselves.
- Even if the auction house is full of low-priced skins, you can sell your 20-item stacks for solid silver at NPC vendors – the flowers from herbalism and the ores from mining bring significantly less.
Those who diligently skin while leveling and selling the skins at the NPC vendor can earn a nice sum of gold on the way to level 60, completely independent of the player market, the prices there, and risky investments.
It is hard to say for sure, considering the new recipes and resources and the large mega servers.
The no-brainers from Classic were:
– Enchanting (especially if you have some rare endgame recipes) – best combined with tailoring
– Alchemy (you always need potions, elixirs, and flasks) – best combined with herbalism
– Herbalism or Mining for farming rare resources like arcane crystals or black lotus
With Forever, however, other professions for making gold could also become more interesting.
The sharpening stones from blacksmiths are going to play a much bigger role than in Classic, as they can be used in addition to poisons or weapon effects via totems. Engineers can finally sell many of their grenades to non-engineers.
Tip for questing and leveling: Get bags early and do not leave loot behind
Many Classic veterans have put the same rule at the top of their priority list for the new adventure in Forever: Get bags! They do not want to find themselves in a situation where they have to leave any kind of loot behind.
Gray items can be sold well at NPC vendors, and in high-level zones, they can bring a few gold per piece. Many white items, which may seem unremarkable at first glance, can be important for certain classes or professions.
Or you might strike the jackpot and get unbound blue or epic loot pieces from a defeated enemy. These “world drops” are sometimes highly sought after and can fetch hundreds or even thousands of gold pieces.
Warning: Just don’t make the mistake of equipping the items right away. Afterwards, you cannot sell them anymore!
At first glance, mounts in WoW: Forever cost a lot of gold. But these are investments that pay off! The faster you move through the world, the more efficiently you can farm herbs, ores, or specific enemies. Without the fast mount, you will have a noticeable farming disadvantage at level 60.
Do not underestimate fishing and cooking
Regardless of which two main professions you learn, make sure to also engage with the three secondary professions: fishing, cooking, and first aid. The latter provides you with bandages and healing potions and is not so exciting for making gold. The situation is different with the other two professions.
Cooking is more important in Forever than in Classic because most buff food grants a useful bonus for experience points. For this reason alone, almost no player will leave the house without food and will buy XP meals quickly from the auction house if needed.
You can earn even more gold in the long run with fishing. In Classic, stone scale eels, night fish, and deviates were perpetual favorites. The fish market is intensified because certain types can only be caught at specific times of the day or year. In Forever, new fish species and recipes requiring fish will also be added.
No unnecessary expenses while leveling!
If you want to own and ride the normal mount upon reaching level 40, you need to generate income but also minimize expenses. The same applies to the much more expensive, but faster mount at level 60, which costs 1,000 gold.
Therefore:
- Avoid unnecessary expenses at NPC vendors or in the auction house
- Only buy the abilities you really need for leveling from the class trainer
- Avoid investing your savings in the expansion of crafting professions initially
Supplies like food and water are also expensive in the long run. Cooking helps, and if a friendly mage is online, ask him politely if he can provide you with his conjured treats.
The best places in Azeroth for farming
While leveling and at level 60, you should make one or more visits to several locations in Azeroth to farm the particularly lucrative loot from the local enemies. Known from Classic are:
- The Jadefire Satyr camps in Felwood. They drop demonic runes (for personaluse, interesting for mana classes) and fel cloth.
- The earth elementals in the Badlands, who drop elemental earth and deepstone salt, among other things.
- The furbolgs in Winterfall, after completing a short quest line there, you can farm the so-called E’kos in the snowy area to sell them or exchange them for powerful consumable items like Juju of Strength (increases your strength by 30 for 30 minutes) – best done together with friends, as the E’kos drop for all players in your group.
With better equipment and some practice, you can eventually try more difficult farming routes. A popular area in Classic was the elite zone around Tyr’s Hand in the Eastern Plaguelands. The Scarlet Fighters drop a lot of silver, rune cloth, and more.
The author of these lines, however, enjoyed solo-farming the flowers and chests in the dungeons of Duskwood with his herbalism rogue.
The advantage of instance-based farming routes: There is no disruptive competition from other players.
Created Bank and Auction House Twinks
If you want to earn gold efficiently in WoW: Forever, you need quick access to storage and the auction house. The easiest way to do this is with twinks, whose banks and bags you use as storage and which you park in one of the capital cities, where they can quickly visit the auction house. Ideally, you even create storage twinks for different resources and name them accordingly for maximum clarity.
Once you have set up such a network, you rarely need to go to the capital with your main character. You can simply distribute resources and unbound loot via mail. Gold farmers even create an extra account to be able to interact with the twinks while the main character is, for example, in flight.
Tip for getting started: You don’t even need to log in with your first storage twinks, just create them. Even then, you can send mail to your twink with your main character, which will be safely stored until you eventually log in, bring the low-level character to your city of choice, and safely store the sent items in the bank.

- Auctionator (on curseforge.com): Assists you with auction house trading by documenting price trends, performing scans, helping you create shopping lists and evaluations, and warning you about items that are set too cheap.
- Better Vendor Price (on curseforge.com): Tells you what your items in the inventory are worth, what a full stack of 20 units brings, and which item is the least valuable when you have full bags again.
- GatherMate2 Classic (on curseforge.com): Remembers where resource nodes are and shows you these on the map for future farming rounds. Note: Unfortunately, there is still no Forever variant available. The last update is 3 months old.
