Housing fans would need a small detail to be happier. But World of Warcraft gives them something else.
The housing in World of Warcraft is likely one of the biggest features ever added to the game and delights a community that is fully engaged in it. In every patch, Blizzard has introduced new features or decorations, and in Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek, there are a few new objects. One of them is a whole new exterior design for your house that looks quite impressive.
However, many players don’t particularly want the new house. Instead, they would settle for just a small part of it.
A door to fulfill all dreams
What do players want instead? Looking into the WoW subreddit, you see a clear trend. A wish that has been expressed for months and has now also been depicted with a meme.
Instead of always new house designs, parts of the community wish for something else: a simple door.
Why would one want a simple door? The idea is that the door would replace the entire house. This would mean there would be no building in the garden area, just a door that serves as access to the interior.
This would give players even more freedom to build their own houses. Many creative minds can’t make use of the standard houses and instead prefer to create their own creations – like flying airships in the sky, a personal necropolis in the garden, or simply a large cave.
So far, it has been necessary to “hide” the house, making it completely unseen behind rocks or walls.
The community wants a door for creativity: In the WoW subreddit, there is ongoing discussion. Many desire more options for the outdoor area to build more specific houses – like caves, campsites, or the wagon of a Vulpera caravan (and for mage towers, it would also be quite nice).

- “Honestly. I wouldn’t even want something as “special” as in your example. Just a simple, solid square, maybe colorable, with options to move, rotate, and resize it. Let us place that “door” decoration in multiple places for bonus points. That would open up so many possibilities.” – FizzleMyth
- “I thought the same thing earlier. I wanted to make a large caravan wagon my house, but the damn entrance door is stuck to the house, and you can’t even shrink the house.” – Cadlington
Cortyn says: The desire is not new. Since I also move in rather active housing communities, I have heard many express that they wish for an easier way to hide their houses or just to have a small object as an entrance. So far, it has always been tied to a huge house that needs to be costly hidden behind rocks or walls and significantly limits creativity.
However, I am confident that Blizzard will address this in one of the upcoming patches, as the implementation seems quite simple. Having just a door as a house alternative may feel odd to some, but for many, it would be another way to express themselves freely in housing.
