The pirate adventure Windrose launched in Early Access on April 24, 2026. Players are wondering what new features they can expect in the future. But is there a roadmap for that?
What’s coming in the near future? So far, there is no official roadmap for Windrose. However, the developers announced their next steps in a blog post on Steam.
The next major update is expected to be released in about 6 months and will also introduce a new biome: the Ashlands. Until then, there will primarily be bug fixes and technical improvements to make the existing experience much more pleasant for players.
More detailed information regarding a broader roadmap is expected in 1 – 2 months.
And beyond? There are also some rough guidelines for the entire Early Access that the developers want to achieve (see Steam):
- Duration: approx. 1.5 to 2.5 years
- 1.0 is supposed to have 50% more content at full release than the current version
- More biomes, bosses, enemies, ships, and weapons, for example
- The completed story is expected to encompass 50 – 70 hours of gameplay
- Various gameplay systems are to be tested and possibly added
- Official mod support is to be added at some point
- PVP may be included
Whether there will be a console version is currently unclear. The developers want to focus primarily on a clean PC version for Early Access.
Why is there no fixed roadmap so far? The developers do not want to commit to an order or a fixed timeframe right now, as they primarily wish to work along with the community. The FAQ states:
„Although we already have a rough plan for future biomes, bosses, and story arcs, the feedback from players will be crucial in determining which contents and aspects of the game we need to focus on. We are committed to listening attentively and working hard to keep this journey exciting for everyone.”
It is up to you to engage with the developers via Discord, Steam, and the internal reporting tool to share your opinions. Perhaps you can ensure that your requested changes are prioritized if more players beside you share the same views.
