The persistently high prices for memory aka RAM continue to make it difficult for PC gamers and are badly affecting their wallets. Unfortunately, there is no good news: According to a report, everything indicates that it will not get better even in 2027.
What does the report say? The Taiwanese news portal DigiTimes published an article on August 4, 2026, based on insider information. According to this, the first RAM production companies have already finalized their capacities for 2027.
While the NAND flash supply is not as bad, the DRAM relevant for gaming is already fully booked. In 2027, the year with the lowest supply of memory
will occur. At least insiders assume that the prices will not increase at the same rate as before. However, a decrease is not in sight.
Specifically, Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron have completely booked their RAM production capacities for 2027. Additional capacities are currently not planned. This is likely to lead to tight memory availability in the market for private buyers in 2027.
Data centers with deep pockets lead to expensive gaming PCs
Why does this mean continued high prices? Currently, it is primarily the builders of AI data centers who are purchasing the valuable memory sticks. This is happening in such large quantities that fewer products are left for the private market.
However, due to sufficiently high demand from private individuals, for example, from people wanting to build their own gaming PC, companies can sell their RAM for more and more money. As long as someone is willing to pay the increased prices and the products do not become unsellable, further increases are on the table.
According to the insiders cited in the DigiTimes report, prices are not expected to rise as sharply as before in 2027.
