The Twitch streamer Neuro-Sama made headlines in December 2022 among gamers. Behind the pretty virtual facade of a girl officially stands an artificial intelligence and not a real person, as is the case with so-called Vtubers.
But where does Neuro-Sama currently stand and how is the streamer doing in 2024?

Who or what is Neuro-sama? Neuro-Sama is an AI, who appears as a Vtuber on Twitch. She has existed since 2019, but at that time she had no personality and had only one task: to win the rhythm game osu!
N.E.U.R.O. stands for “Non-Emotive Understanding and Reasoning Operation” and Sama stands for Samantha.
It became really exciting only on December 19, 2022. On that day, the AI was launched with its own personality that could interact with its viewers. By the way, this was initiated by a user named Vedal987. He describes himself as a “student with a special interest in AI”, and nothing official is known about him. This marked the start of the major breakthrough of the AI streamer on Twitch.
Why did this AI excite so many viewers? Vedal developed and adapted the personality himself. The AI uses so-called “large language models”: the artificial intelligence is trained with texts and thus has a broad knowledge base to draw from. At the same time, it can scour millions of responses on the internet to find out how to properly answer or react to a specific question. This makes her responses feel very natural and human-like.
The Twitch ban in early 2023: Just a few weeks later, in early January 2023, the AI streamer received a ban. Allegedly, it was due to controversial statements regarding the Holocaust and execution methods. Time and again, trolls try to manipulate the AI with information or questions to make it say strange things.

What happened next? The creator “Vedal” announced that the AI streamer would return. But in a changed and adapted form so that there would not be any more issues or even another ban.
About two weeks later, on January 25, 2023, Neuro-Sama returned to Twitch and immediately gained 100,000 followers.
Over the past months, “Neuro-Sama” significantly increased her number of viewers and followers. On September 1, 2023, the streamer reached 400,000 followers. Her videos regularly reach more than 500,000 viewers on Twitch. However, there are also videos that receive only a few thousand clicks.
Another milestone was reached by Neuro-Sama in December 2023: She was among the 10 most viewed female Twitch streamers. She ranked 5th with over 361,000 viewed hours, even surpassing the well-known Twitch streamer Emiru (339,000 hours).
The success was partly due to a “Birthday Subathon” that took place for a week in December and was reported to be very successful.

What is the current situation? Currently (as of February 2024), the streamer is on a break from Twitch. The creator stated on Twitter that he is currently raising a (robot) dog and therefore has no time. He at least posted a picture of the robot on Twitter.
However, it is quite likely that the AI will stream again in 2024. After all, the streamer surpassed 500,000 followers in January 2024, and the creator is also very successful with merchandise products related to Neuro-Sama.
